Edison Miranda - “Expect to See Pavlik On His Back!"

FB: So Edison, how did you get started in boxing?

Edison Miranda: “I didn‘t even know what boxing was back then, but I had a dream. It was a message from God, and in the dream I saw myself in a boxing ring beating someone. This was the moment I knew I would become a professional fighter. All I know is God has a path for everyone, and mine is to be middleweight champion of the world.â€￾

FB Who were your boxing heroes as a kid?

EM: Muhammad Ali. He was my favourite.

Miranda wasn´t even born when Ali fought, but I guess when he was growing up on the mean streets of Columbia drinking his own urine and trying to survive, he made it his priority to never miss open tent night on the homevideo-system showing Ali Classics.

I was confused myself because first he never knew about boxing, but now he watched Ali? I think "kid" means before 20 years old

I hope to god Miranda does not win this fight. I will give him credit if he does but AI cannot stand this guy. I do admire one thing about the guy though. His willingness to fight anyone.

I love this fight. I agree with Miranda fighting everyone and anyone. I dig that in him. :bears: I just see too many flaws in his game. One thing I have not heard, is this fight a mandatory tiltle fight eliminator? :dunno: Anyone know? With Jermain talking Duddy:shit: , I sure as hell hope so.

You can't like a guy unless you've seen him live? That's ridiculous. There is this thing we call "Video tape" where we can watch things that have happened in the past.

you missed the boat. I like Salvador Sanchez, but to call him my favorite fighter when I never got to see him live is foolish. :dunno:

Miranda's best shot is to try to get Kelly early, as I am quite sure Pavlik is the better conditioned of the two.
Pavlik is the biggest middleweight I have ever seen in person, and he is a terrific combination puncher, while Edison is a winger.

So you're saying a newcomer to the sport who couldn't possibly have seen a Ray Robinson live cant have him as a favorite fighter?

What is this out with the old in with the new?

As usual Reed cannot argue his way out of a paper bag. There is no rational reason a person cannot like a fighter who retired or were past their prime before they were born. You can see all the fights Duran had that were on tv. That's all you need to know. Reed wants to pull the age card because he knows nothing about the sport. His only psuedo-argument is I was there which isn't a rational argument. A man could be 50. If he hasn't done anything in his life, a 15 year old could be more mature.

REED Merely Pointed Out that Jaws Operates Under the SAME Rules...

Sorry Ike, I'm with Reed on this. IMO, you can respect a fighters game of yesteryear, like his style, power, chin and so on. But to have never seen the guy fight, but only on video, and then call him your favorite. Thats just...well...Miranda like:tease:

People think it's funny not because Ali had been retired, but because Miranda said Ali was his favorite as a kid and he saw all of Ali's fights when Miranda didn't know what boxing was until age 15 or something, although you can still call teenagers "kids".

God forbid he not be biased by hype...wait it was Ali right...yeah throw that last statement in the garbage...

I think assessing people outside of this spectrum is good, it keeps people from saying things like "Shane Mosley is the next Ray Robinson" or "I'm Mr. Unknockoutable" or "Riddick Bowe is the most talented HW I've ever seen."

objectivity is wonderful, you should try it sometime

Miranda destroys Pavlik inside 6 rounds.

But of course I haven't hit a prediction right since McCallum starched Curry, so don't bet much on my advice..

Pavlik will weather Miranda's bombs for the first half of this fight. Then Miranda will gas, Pavlik will start landing combos by the gords. Miranda gets starched in under 8.:nono:

I'll be pulling for Pavlik but I'm not sure he can stand up to the bombs early.. If he does, then I am fully onboard with your take.. Wonder if they'll let me bet it like that?

You're right I have no idea who Duran fought, just words on paper, and I really go out of my way to nuthug Duran at all costs unlike you who has a healthy respect for RJJ.
