.....in the Pride ring. Fedor, the reigning Pride heavyweight champion vs the gold medalist Kurt Angle from the 1996 Olympics at his near peak. Who do you pick?
You might think of Kurt Angle as a sham, but he is a legitimate wrestler. 1996 Olympic wrestling gold medalist. For your reference, Rulon Gardner who is a 2 time Olympic medalist in 2000(gold) and 2004(bronze), stepped into the Pride ring against Yoshida and won easily. Do you think the very qualified prime Kurt Angle would be in over his head by stepping into the Pride ring?
There have been PLENTY of wrestlers who have tried their hand in MMA, and for the most part they've fared well, probably better than any single disipline (other than maybe BJJ).....That being said, Fedor? Come on Hanzy, we both know Fedor is God. So in short, if he trained at it, he'd have quite the foundation to start off with, but no way would he beat Fedor
You could've just said that the first time.:jester:Why the rambling? But you're right. The only time I saw Kurt Angle in a somewhat of an MMA fight is the little fight he had with Daniel Puder on Smackdown where they broke kayfabe and went at it real for about 20 seconds there, with Puder trapping Kurt in a kimura. I don't think Kurt was prepared for that but he got the pin.
Rardner had a good gameplan against a guy who was a ton smaller than him. Angle wouldn't have the size advantage that Gardner had over Yoshida.
I read that Angle said that if he could do it over again he would of got into MMA first but I think he did what was best for him and his family because there was no money in MMA at the time but I think he would of been a great MMA fighter because he has the drive to be successful and before people start laughing because he's a pro wrestler obviously don't know shit about Angle because he happens to own victories over Mark Coleman,Mark Kerr and Randy Couture to name a few and plus he was more accomplished than they were in freestyle GrecoRoman wrestling.
what gives you that idea? Fedor is a much better submission wrestler than Angle. Angle has WRESTLED, which is a totally different game than submission wrestling.
Anyone remember Angle and MMA fighter Daniel Puder going at it for real for about 30 seconds on a WWE Smackdown show back in late 2004? Apparently, somebody on the booking side forgot to tell Puder to lay down for Angle, and instead just about breaks Angle's arm in a kimura.
