Quite a glut of welterweight contenders coming through at the moment. Rank 'em in terms of potential, or by whatever criteria you choose, or spit out whatever thoughts you have which come to mind.

    Mike Jones
    Selcuk Aydin
    Mike Alvarado
    Kell Brook
    Brad Solomon
    Viacheslav Senchenko
    Ionut Dan Ion
    Shawn Porter
    Frankie Gavin (?)

I like Dan Ion, Solomon & Brook. I leave the book open on their potential to do something interesting at world level, given the right match ups.

Don't think too much of Alvarado, Porter, Aydin or Mike Jones.

Senchenko seems a reasonably good European level fighters and would be credible title contenders, if he can rattle a couple wins (for belt holders other than Pac or Floyd who have to fry bigger fish), but isn't going much further.

He'd have a fair chance of beating Berto, certainly.

I've read that Brook and Mike Jones may meet this year. I've never seen Jones fight yet, so i'm going to do so soon.

I think Id favour Brook, but Id have to watch more of both to come down firm on anything.

Has he moved up permanently? If so, another excellent addition!

Be interesting to see if the talent conveyor belt continues at 2012 without him. I don't follow amateur boxing so I really don't have a clue how that's shaping up.

According to Kell Brook's facebook profile, he wants a shot at Paul Williams in the near future.

A good future match-up imo. You think Williams is no good after that heavy Martinez loss?

Not sure that's a very good match up for Brook. I'd also be disappointed if he had to move up, personally. Preferred the Jones fight idea.

Williams would batter Brook, unless Brook managed to take him out with one shot, which I can't see happening. After the Martinez KO though, you never know.
