DeJesus handed Roberto Duran his 1st loss at lightweight and he had the power to knock him down. Could he beat PBF?
Oh good fight! I also say YES Dejesus (at his best) can beat PBF. I personally have only seen a hand full of Dejesus fight's, but from what I have seen I think he posses the tools to defeat Floyd.
Esteban fought a great fight against Duran and overall he was pretty good but let's not forget Roberto had a bit of an off night and proved it by stopping him the next two times. Esteban never really beat or fought a guy like Floyd. Other than maybe power he would be on a clear disadvantage in every other category. Floyd UD.
Esteban would not only have beaten Floyd, he would have stopped him. That return against Manos De Piedra was in Panama City, outdoors in over 100 degree heat in a VERY hostile atmosphere in Duran's home city, with Steven's corner facing the sun. Steven dropped him, and the fight was a classic, but the elements and atmosphere as much as Duran beat him. DeJesus was a 15 Round fighter, Floyd was a 12 round fighter, HUGE difference there in terms of stamina and conditioning. DeJesus really beat Duran up first time, put an ass whipping on him winning 8 rounds to 2. I am a floyd fan, but no way he wins this fight vs. an authentically much harder and tougher fighter and man.
Good Post! I wish I can get my hands on more Dejesus fights. I only had the privilage to see a few but damn was I impressed.:bears: Like many PR champions his downfall was drugs and dicipline. One can only wonder how much better could he had been with the right life style.
That is a very unfair comparison. Since fights these days are 12 rounds, then of course Floyd trains so that he has the stamina for that. Everything above the limit is useless, so instead of training stamina he trains something else, for example he can carry more muscle because the fight is shorter. If fights were 15 rounders now, of course they would train different. I am not sure what "harder man" means here and I don't think I even want to, but I pick Floyd by clear decision
If you were dreaming up a lightweight to beat Floyd, your man & his style would look allot like DeJesus. A guy who could come forward pushing such volume and variety while being so controlled. Better than Castillo - far more unpredictable and more difficult to tag - but he could follow a similar blueprint, admittedly without the big advantage in size/physicality. Really don't know about this one.
