Evander Holyfield vs. Lou Savarese Saturday Night

Lou's promoter, Cameron Park, telephoned me last night to discuss some strategy and "what ifs" for the heavyweight fight from El Paso Saturday night.
We both agreed on Lou's best specific shot selection to put him in the best possible position for victory, and what to do the very first time Evander brings his infamous head into play.
I offered my input to Lou on what to do, and it's up to Lou whether he does it or not, but I guarantee if he does what I suggested, Evander will be looking up at the roof of the arena and won't do it again, that is if he recovers.
Unfortunately I am not going to be able to attend in person, so I'll have to watch it like the rest of us from my living room.
What are your thoughts on the fight?
How do you see it playing out, and how do you think it will be fought?
It should be a lot of fun regardless of whether both guys are past their best days, and the undercard will be action packed to be sure as well.

Savarese had heart and the desire, but not the physical skills to ammount to much...I don't know how shot he is, but I know how shot evander is, so I think this is gonna be an ugly fight, with evander winning on points.

Savarese hurt Grant in the first round of their fight with a right hand. Nobody noticed it but i did. Mind you Grant was considered invincible at the point so everybody wrote it off just as a right hand but if only lou knew he could have exposed grant before golota did and maybe he would have gotten that title shot versus lewis....but anyway has anybody ever seen lou throw a jab? I can't recall...holyfield is winning in late rounds

 

I wouldn't watch this fight if they were fighting in my kitchen and my Father was the ref.

I haven't cared less about a fight involving two names since Larry Holmes fought Butterbean back in '02.

Not a chance. Honestly, I would never pay to watch either guy.

It's a crime that the winner of this fight gets a shot at the WBO title.

 

The only way I would have seen this fight is if it happened in Calgary like originally expected.

 

Well, the WBO Champion isn't much.

 

I know. The whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach. On the bright side, at least this fight is hidden on PPV. I'm glad neither Holyfield or Savarese is stealing an HBO or Showtime spot from a deserving fighter who is good NOW.

 

Well, I think it is gonna be a good action fight regardless.
I also think just about anyone that trains can beat either of these two tomato cans on ESPN 2 right now.::

 

If Evander's promoter called you and you gave Evander your input about the perfect shot selection - then Lou would look at the roof, right?

I don't know if it'll be a good action fight. Evander doesn't throw very many punches these days.

 

He already won a portion of the title when he beat Fres Oquendo, so I was right, huh Andrew?
As far as the interview goes, he wanted to act like an ass in the gym to me and a friend back before he fought Maddalone when I took time off from work to go down there, and I told him to his face he was out of business as far as coverage from fightbeat is concerned, and if he didn't like it, to deal with it.
Payton and Carlos can verify that as training footage of him was not put up on our website.
Then what do you know?
He was such a gentleman after the Maddalone fight to me at the press conference.

Technically, Holyfield won the USBA title. A noteworthy title in it's own right, but not one of the "major" belts...the type that Holyfield is sticking around for.

I didn't say that, I said I walked right up to him and told him he was through on fightbeat as far as him getting any amount of coverage from us was concerned.
I sent the footage to Payton and Carlos as they wanted to see it, but it will never appear here.
I forgot about it as him and his promoter were nice to me at the press conference in Corpus.
It's forgotten and I've moved on in boxing.

Forget major or not, it wasn't even a "world" title.

Man, it was right after Shields taped his hands and he blew me and a friend off when I tried to get him to talk, and he had been so cool with me the previous two times I met him, including a piece here we did on fightbeat.
I was pissed and confronted him about it is all I remember, and he could tell I was serious, but I really can't describe his demeanor as I don't know the man.
That is all in the past, and like I said, him and Cathy Duva were real nice to me afterwards, so I am sure they knew the deal and all is forgiven.
