Sam Caplan of FiveOuncesofPain.com scored an exclusive interview with WAMMA heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko, who is currently in Russia training for his January 24 meeting with former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovksi. The interview is a fantastic read and Caplan really hit on all the major points with his questions. Fedor responded to comments made by Arlovski about Fedor's recent loss in Combat Sambo, to trainer Freddie Roach's appraisal of his stand-up game, and to comments made by UFC president Dana White. In response to Arlovksi, Fedor says: Maybe Andrei is trying to convince himself that I have been weakened in some way. But it [doesn’t] matter [as] we are not fighting Sambo with Andrei. The only thing I am 100 percent sure about is that I will be 100 percent ready to fight MMA against Andrei. And that is the only thing I care about right now. In response to Roach, Fedor says: Sometimes it is a trainer’s job to point out weaknesses in his fighter’s opponents. And sometimes it is a trainer’s job to convince his fighter that his opponent has weaknesses. We will see. In response to White, Fedor says: I do not pay too much attention to what Dana White says in the media. He is trying to sell one thing as good and make you not buy another thing by saying it is bad. I just want to fight the best fighters in the world. I am lucky that the best heavyweight fighters in the world right now are with M-1 Global and Affliction. If the situation is right and there is someone really good in the UFC that will fight me, then I would be fine fighting [for] them. Fedor's a bright though humble guy and clearly intelligence is a big part of his supernatural ability inside the ring. Still, vultures are circling after his Sambo loss and that adds intrigue to a fight that was already quite compelling. Arlovski looks new and improved since leaving the UFC and has dispatched two IFL champs in a row. It's difficult to ever bet against Fedor, but could The Pitbull be the one to end his reign?
I agree, Fedor points out how stupid he sounds when White goes around saying negative things about MMA fighters, just because they don't fight in the UFC
