Vernon's jab would trouble Tito no doubt, but i still like Trinidad in this one. Tito wasn't a short guy and wouldn't have to lunge in and end up getting trapped in the clinch. I think his steady pressure would start getting to Vernon in the second half of the fight.
Tito by late KO. Vern would give him trouble for awhile with his jab, and skills, and would drop him early, but i really cant see him avoiding Felix for 12 rounds. Eventually Tito would close the distance, find the range, and Forrest would eventually get seriously hurt and stopped late. Trinidad TKO 10. At 154, I think Tito stops him earlier. Within 6.
I agree, that Forrest troubles Tito at first, though probably not as much as most on here think. Then in about 4 or 5 rds Tito like he was known to do in his welter days would figure Forrest out and start pot shoting him with accurate punches for a good 3 or 4 more rds to Forrest either wilts or the ref stops it. Remember when Tito used to be considered a slow starter? Fact is, he was actually a very patient boxer who took the time to figure out his opponent and methodically break him down. 147 Tito was one of the smartest boxers I've ever seen and I would put him right up there with Hopkins and Floyd when it comes to ring smarts.
?? I don't think so. He had some intelligence in terms of knowing when to punch and that helped make him accurate and deadly. But I think someone as intelligent as B-Hop or PBF would do something differently like say, come in at an angle instead of straight ahead (Tito against Hopkins), or circle THE OTHER WAY (Tito against Wright). Granted, Tito became more power-crazy later on, but it's not as if his boxing IQ went from Einstein to Gump once he moved up in weight. He was just fighting guys who mostly weren't as smart or crafty when he was @ 147 as he was later on.
Incorrect. You need to qualify this statement my friend. Tito was offensively smart: he knew what punch to throw and when and how to feint and fake in order to create openings. I'll give you that. But when you liken him to Hopkins and Floyd, you are suggesting that he's smart at all aspects of the game like they are. Not so, not so by a LOOOOONG stretch. Ring Generalship, defense, tactical versatility...are NOT areas of the game where Tito was/is "smart".
Vernon would jab Tito's head off his shoulders.....If you think Winky's debacle was humiliating, wait until prime and hungry Vernon starts pumping that thing right into Cheato's face..... Of course, before fight Vernon would have to ensure no funny business happens with Tito's gloves.....
I might have overstated myself a bit. It's true Tito wasn't ring smart as Hops or Floyd, and that is directly evident in the Oscar fight. However when it came to figuring guys out, he used to be great at that.
Bullshit! A jab is becoming very overated in beating Trinidad. It takes a PERFECT fight and a master boxer to beat Trinidad. The Viper likes to mix it up (look at his fight with Mayorga) and that my friend gets him KTFO. I doubt Forrest can execute a perfect fight for 12 rounds against a prime version of Tito.
Agreed! The jab is so overrated against certain guys. Neither Hopkins or ODLH had success against Tito with just a jab. Hopkins exercised defense and Oscar used lateral movement. You also hear this jem often.... "Forrest beat Shane with a jab". Bullshit, Forrest beat Shane with a straight right and an uppercut. That fight was over after the 2nd rd basically. The headbutt didn't hurt the Vipers chances either. :stir:
