I'm sure most expect me to make an anti-Canelo post and say "Vargas beats his ass", but truthfully, I think it'd be a close fight. What favors Canelo is that if anybody gets hurt/dropped here, it'd be Nando. Canelo definitely has a better chin than Vargas ever had.

I just don't wanna here anybody (like a horse) saying that Canelo dominates, since Canelo didn't even dominate an old, undersized Cotto.

I think Canelo would get the nod of the judges in a close affair.

Vargas beats the younger, less polished Canelo of circa 2011-2013.

Canelo wins via late stoppage. Competitive fight throughout but Canelo is tougher and probably hits harder to boot. Canelo is also smarter.

Canelo ain’t stopping Vargas. No way.

I’d argue he could pull off a decision but I think Vargas being more skilled, having a high work rate, and physically stronger would pull off the victory.

Horseface was just doubting whether or not Sugar Ray fucking Leonard would have stopped Vargas. Yet he's VERY confident that Canelo would have done so.

Cause you know, prime Vargas was apparently more fragile than a washed up, undersized Cotto...

Honestly, I just don't see this. I don't think Vargas is more skilled. I liked Vargas a lot and I don't find Canelo particularly great to watch but I just think he's flat out BETTER than El Feroz. He moves his fucking head for a start.

canelo is clearly more skilled than Vargas, and more durable. Vargas wouldn’t have a prayer against GGG for one thing.

I don’t think Canelo is clearly more skilled. He’s just faster. Vargas had more weapons on offense and was a better inside fighter.

Canelo couldn’t stop the likes of Lara, Cotto, and Trout. Not exactly the most durable guys, and yet he’s stopping Vargas, whom lasted to the 12th round with Trinidad and the 11th round with De La Hoya? Doubtful

Canelo traditionally being a spurt fighter had trouble stopping movers. Vargas wasn’t a mover...he liked a good scrap.

Secondly, You saw the Tito fight same as me. Tito knocked Vargas down three times in the first round and dominated the 2nd. Vargas only got into the fight after thumbing Tito in the 3rd. Tito’s eye swelled up and it interrupted his rhythm. It took him a while to get back into it and once he did he took over again. My point is, if not for the thumbing Vargas wouldn’t have lasted anywhere near that long.

Vargas was down twice in the first and he thumbed him after he dropped him.

The Vargas that fought Wright, Quartey and Trinidad is clearly better than the Canelo that fought Trout, Floyd, and Lara.

At 154 or “Canelo weight” I think Vargas is too well rounded, adaptable and sustains too high a work rate.

People see Canelo as this huge, dangerous puncher but his big KO’s only seem to come in fights where the opponent is brought in to get KO’d like worn fringe guys like Angulo and Kirkland, and small chinny guys like Khan. Outside of dropping Trout he hasn’t really been able to put a real dent in any of his live opponents. Not saying he can’t hurt or KO Vargas but he’s not a certified chin checker like Trinidad and DLH.

Perhaps Vargas was down twice as opposed to three times (not that it matters really) but he thumbed him BEFORE dropping him and that is a fact!
