Vargas from the Tito fight vs. Mugabi from the Hagler fight. Who wins?

    Hmmm.....

If Vargas can survive the first few rounds, he wins by KO. My instanct tells me that the Vargas of the Tito fight would indeed survive (he had an underrated defense in those days) and would rebound to KO the beast in 7 rounds.

I'll take Vargas. Mugabi was a big hitter, but he wasn't as quick and couldn't set up punches like Trinidad. I can see the Beast jarring Nando a few times but not doing enough to take him out. Vargas in the mean time does the better work and takes the fight.

Yeah Vargas is gonna do in 7 what it took Hagler 11 to do. Even though Hagler was past it when he fought Mugabi, even a faded Hagler is a much better fighter than a prime Vargas, and a much better puncher. Nando was never a puncher, he aint stopping a prime Mugabi in no 7 rounds, Mugabi aint Campas!

This is a pick em as far as I'm concerned due to styles. If Vargas could survive the first 5-6 rounds, he could outpoint Mugabi, but theres a legit possibility that he DOESNT survive the first 5-6 rounds.

I'm not overrated Mugabi by saying that, just stating the facts. Mugabi was no great fighter, but he WAS a great puncher, a better one-punch knockout artirst than Tito, even though he lacked Tito's skill-set and accuracy. Him icing Vargas early is a real possibility, but IF Nando survives the early-to-mid rounds, he outboxes Mugabi.
