I was at Vazquez-Marquez III, so I'd like to say that fight, but I'd go with Casamayor-Katsidis.

Provided Cotto & Margarita handle thier business next month, I think Cotto-Marga will be a strong FOTY candidate when they fight this summer.

I still think it's Vazquez-Marquez III, but can see a strong case for Pac-Marquez II.

    Casa-Kat was great, though.

    Peace.

I prefer fights like the Casamayor fight and I'll be surprised if it isn't my foy at the end of the year. Objectively, I don't think it is remotely close. But it's fair to pick foy purely subjective so I don't care if people prefer the distance fights.

It's weird, as an action fight Vazquez - Marquez 3 was better, but somehow at the time, watching live, Pacman - Marquez 2 was more tense and exciting.

That's the live factor though, I'd say as a fight to rewatch, the Vazquez one is better, but at the time I found the pacman fight more exciting. So I am not sure which one to choose :dunno:

I must say though, yesterday's fight wasn't even fucking close to the other 2.

the other 2 were fought at a very high level, were very competitive, with good clean punching, and almost no clinching.

Last night's fight was sloppy, messy with a fair bit of holding etc.

Sure it was exciting and had lots of surprises, but it wasn't even close to the other 2.

I thought it was a great fight, but that's basically my thinking as well.

Plus what was ON THE LINE for the other two was more significant (in my opinion).

    Peace.

Yeah the significance of the other 2 was far greater too.

I thought last night's fight was good and exciting, but not great.

I rewatched today, but it's not the sort of fight I would watch again. Casamayor's style is just too ugly to produce a great fight.

I was at I and III. I traveled down from the Bay Area for both and I'm aware of just how great that trilogy was and what kind of class was on dislpay in each of their three fights.

But I also didn't think the fight was as close as I came to read others felt after the fight.

I thought Vazquez had won the fight clearly...before the last-round and the knockdown.

With Casamayor-Katsidis, there were more dramatic shifts in momentum and the fight was in doubt until the sudden knockdown in round 10...and that was after both guys on the deck (one outside the ropes) and looked like they could've been finished in earlier rounds.

Thanks for some parity. I was really mad that I missed it, but not so much now.

so because a few people didn't think it was that great you don't care that you missed it?

Well ok if you count the severity of momentum change u might be right but in V vs. M u had those shifts in every round when one guy came on strong to hurt the other guy and vice versa.

Yesterday one guy got pummeled for two and a half round then went on to outwork the shot fighter and then got caught stupid... thats two changes...

I mean the shifts were more dramatic, not that there were more shifts.

Sure, they were dramatic and surprising, and it made for a very good watch at the time, because you were surprised and unsure of what was going to happen.

One minute you thought Casa was going to win, then you thought Michael was, then suddenly Casa won.

But overall it was not a great fight, once you know what's going to happen, it#s not the sort of fight you'd want to rewatch like the vazquez fight and the pacman fight.

That's the whole point, you don't know what's going to happen or who's going to win.

With Vazquez-Marquez, really I didn't think the fight was as close as people who watched it on tv did...and that may be in part due to Al Bernstein's scorecard.

And that's great indeed, it's the best part of live boxing really isn't it?

But once you've seen it, that's it.

I mean - what would you rather rewatch out of the Vazquez fight and the Casa fight?

I didn't know that was the criteria for Fight of the Year.

It isn't, but neither is just being "surprising".

There are many factors, and the Vazquez and Pacman fights had more of them.

If the main factor was just being surprising then fights like Sanders - Wlad would be fight of the year, or any other shocking fight.

I prefer a good, highly skilled action fight, that's fiercely contested, and has good clean punching and minimal clinching.

Vazquez-Marquez III and by a fair margin.
