I was considering Wladimir Klitchko, the once hailed heir apparent of the Heavyweight division who was looking spectacular when he was destroying the likes of McCline, Mercer, Barrett, Jefferson, Shufford and the rest.

Suddenly he ran into Corrie Sanders and seemed to be "exposed"...in a quick short drubbing. A couple of fights later he is stopped by hapless Lamon Brewster and it seems like the once promising fighter is all but done.

However..he comes back, defeats Peter, destroys byrd, destroys Calvin Brock and all is forgiven and he's back on top.

    This doesn't happen very often.

The only other fighter that springs to mind is the man his succeeded, Lennox Lewis.

Lewis looked like the KING when he destroyed Ruddock, and nearly everyone was proclaiming him the uncrowned champion. Then a few fights later he is KOed in two rounds by one punch from Oliver Mcall. Yet Lewis fights back to regain some reputation and gets it all back after defeating Holyfield. He then gets KOed again against Rahman. However, one fight, four rounds and one right hook later he regains ALL of his former glory and then some and has now retired with teh reputation as being one of the greatest Heavyweights of all time.

    Who else has managed this?

    Joe Louis, Lennox...

As IMPRESSIVE as Wlad has Been N RESURRECTING his Career, there's STILL 2 Guys Out there w/KO WINS Over him that he HASN'T Avenged...

Sure,NOBODY is Clamoring for Wlad-Purrity II or Wlad-Sanders II,but it Kinda CHEAPENS the Vibe of this Thread to INCLUDE Wlad,N REED's Opinion...

To REED,U have to AVENGE that "Humbling KO Defeat" AGAINST the Guy that KO'ed U,to Make it Legit...

Another Good Example of what U're Looking for is Israel Vasquez...He QUIT N the 1st Fight w/Rafael Marquez, then Virtually DOMINATED him N the RE...

Perhaps you misunderstand the purpose of the thread compadre.

I'm not talking about avenging all KO defeats...I'm talking about regaining your reputation after having been KOed.

    Wlad has done this.

    Fair Enough...

No Doubt,Wlad has REGAINED his Rep,if Not SURPASSED it...He's THE Best Heavy N the World, just as Many Predicted he'd B PRIOR to the Sanders & Brewster KO's...

yeah, and although it is important to avenge your losses, I think it is a no win vs. Purrity and Sanders.

Against Purrity, we all know what will happen. Wlad is a much more relaxed and disciplined fighter now. He would easily beat Purrity and gain no props for it.

Same with Sanders. I don't see Wlad getting hit with the same stuf that he did in their first fight. Wlad will take him into deep waters and finish him off in the 6th or 7th. And again, no props for it since he just beat a "43 year old part timer"

Wlad has bigger fish to fry.

Agreed with Bob N. Weave regarding Wlad.

BTW...I'd add Kostya Tszyu to that list. It wasn't a "humiliating" KO in the way that McCall-Lennox or Schmeling-Louis I or Sanders-Klitschko were since it was competitive and they were tit-for-tat until the 10th....

But he did have alot of "regaining" of reputation and 'aura' to do...and he sure did that; even being ranked PxP and unifying the division, etc.

    Peace.

Is this about avenging an embarassing KO loss with a KO, or does a win suffice?

    If it's the latter:

    Napoles-Urbina
    Norris-Brown

Not too may examples exist either way

RJJ. He got KTFO by Tarver. So what does he do? He goes and gets KTFO by Johnson. Then he puts on one of the bravest performances ever against Tarver in their third bout. After that he fought and defeated the very dangerous Prince Aboo. And to top it all off, he now has a win over Hanshaw. It's as if RJJ were never KTFO.

Barrera never quite got back the "next Chavez" tag after getting stopped (the DQ was just a technicality) by Jones, but he got a reputation later as one of the best fighters on the planet.

Dang....MAB, Chiquita, Corrales and Ruiz are great ones...

BTW...Manny Pacquiao fits here (even though it happened early - TWO KOs); as does Celestino Caballero.

acutally, I predicted KO within 30 seconds..

I felt even though mike was on Drugs and washed up, he'd bum rush lemmon and make him fold.

I gave Lemmon props for beating a washed up drugged up Mike
