I mean, whether you hate Mayweather or not, if you have not been giving him credit, now is the time in which you should finally acquiesce.

We have respected, but not have given full credit to Floyd and his career thus far. Whether he was ducking or hand picking, there seemed to have been a consensus amongst us as finally "stepping it up" when he decided to take on Shane.

Not only did he dominate Mosely, he finally tasted adversity and passed with flying colors! I had seen how some fans on some of these threads were insinuating that he may not have the best of chins. Nonsense. He was hit not just solidly, but damn hard against a proven knockout puncher, who admits EVERYTIME, to going for the knockout. He was hit more than once and weathered the storm. Not to mention, against a full fledged welterweight, who dabbled in, and knocked out junior middles!!!

In my opinion, that's equivalent to saying, Sonny Banks knocked Ali down, therefore, his chin was suspect.:nono:

Before the fight, Shane was a "Live" underdog at 4-1, and no one was going to be surprised if he got the knockout. Also, if there was going to be a knockout, it would have been Mosely's, a decision would have likely been Floyd's. After getting "rag dolled" by Mayweather, oh how the world turns. Now that some of the haters did not get the desired result, Shane is now a shot fighter. If he is shot, it was because Mayweather pulled the trigger.

mosley isnt shot, but he is GREATLY diminished. still good enough to beat a lot of guys, particularly certain styles but lets face it, he is at best around 60% of what he was at his peak.

So he wins 4 more rounds at 100%? Does he close the show after the big shots in the 2nd? We'll never know. What we do know, is that it was no contest after the 2nd round.

Maybe cause he had previously beat the hell out of brassknuckleless Antonio Margarito...? And look awesome doing so..Jones look great against Lacy then got blasted by Green...Trinidad look great vs. Mayorga then was completely dominated by Winky...etc...etc..

and Mosley is a very likable guy....and many boxing writer and experts at least wanted to give him that...the live underdog tag....

    Common sense post. Thankyou.

It's obvious that SSM is an old fighter.
He's 38, had some tough fights, & is not the fighter that he used to be by a long shot.
If you don't accept that , you're in denial.
Great old fighters can look great against stalking K.O artists, but their age gets exposed against younger, quicker guys.
I know that it's an inconvienient truth for some, but it's true.

I thought it was obvious that PBF would win a clear UD. I even predicted that if it wasn't for his tendency to fight "not to lose" he could win via TKO.

-I was pretty much on the money.
I reckon if he had killer instinct (which he hasn't), he could have stopped SSM tonight.

I also reckon that Manny would have stopped the SSM we saw tonight.

Having said that, PBF did impress me with how strong he is at that weight, & the fact that he was walking SSM down. That was something that I didn't expect.
That was the most impressive aspect of PBF's performance tonight.

As far as his chin is concerned, if it was glass, he would have gone down. If it was Iron he would not have been affected as much as he was. I still think it's mediocre to average.
However he did show very good survival instincts and came back well after getting caught.

I'd say the end of the 4th round. I watched it live with some friends and I remember the things we were saying back and forth while watching it live.
The first round, both guys feeling eachother out basically, we gave the round to Floyd.
Second round, Shane did amazingly well and badly hurt Floyd twice but we noticed instead of letting loose with punches, he was willingly trying Floyd up instead of trying to push the dazed Floyd off and tag him again. Regardless, good round for Shane.
Third round, Shane did absolutely nothing. Backfooting, shimmering, rolling his hands, threw no punches. Floyd was still finding his groove. We just figured Shane was taking the round off after expending some energy in the previous round.
Fourth round, again Shane doing f*ck all and Floyd now settled in fully and doing his thing. Fifth round, Shane still doing nothing other than bouncing around, acting like he's gonna throw punches, not pulling the trigger, etc.
From there onward, Shane looked every bit his age. Just a guy with deteriorated skill and speed.
I almost stopped watching after the fifth since I knew there was no chance Shane was going to do anything now or later if he hadn't already done it.
All in all, Floyd took care of business and Mosley was happy to receive a nice paycheque.
I'm just happy I didn't pay for this fight but I do give credit to Floyd for doing what he promised which was dominant.
I won't be watching anymore Shane Mosley fights if he decides to fight on. Done with shot 38 year old has-beens who try to pull one over on fans by talking crap about being in shape.
Shane was a 2 round fighter at best. I expected much much better from him than what he showed.
Hopefully he retires instead of trying to cheat people out of their money with his bullsh*t false hype about being in great shape and all.

Mosley looked small and weak in there. He looked like the guy who fought at 135. And he was slow as shit.

Mosley is far from shot, but he is also far from his younger prime years. I was praying for a miracle KO punch even before the fight, but I always knew the result was going to be a UD win for Fraud. Mosley is just a 38 year old boxer past his prime.

I have a question. When Shane signed to fight Berto was how come there was no mention of his shotness? I know that Shane stopped punching and was in survival mode but doesn't that have to do with the counters he was eating. I also want to mention that PBF punches alot harder then what he's given credit for. I'll Holla 5000

Mosley overtrained too. He was training for Berto when the fight was cancelled at the last minute, then Floyd's fight was offered for May. His body didn't took a break to rest.

IMO he's shot as shit and I actually thought so when I walked out in the middle of his fight with Mayorga. I honestly don't think last nights Shane would have beaten Cintron, Berto, or Cotto. Hell even Margarito would probably beat him now as would a loser like Clottey.

People can continue to say nobody said he was shot before the fight but that is bullshit. Several people including myself said that not only was the Margarito fight a mirage of where he might actually be but that there is also the possibility of him becoming old overnight which isn't really overnight but rather over 15 months because that's how long it was since he last fought.

Then you got some people who don't want to speculate that he might be shot. Yet these same people are quick to say that Shane looked like shit because he was without his roids. It is a cheap move to make Shane's shotness his own fault rather than mother natures.

Shane's not "shot". I betcha..Shane would still beat Margarito.

The thing is...Floyd Mayweather's style would always trump Shane's style. Always. Floyd can do everything Shane can do...but Shane can't do most things that Floyd can do.

Most people consider Shane at his best in the first De La Hoya fight. but Oscar was a mindless agressor that night. Shane never fought a master boxer like Mayweather. Forrest was a good boxer and look at what he did to a peak Shane.

Floyd would have always beaten Shane. The mayweather of the Judah fight beats the Shane of the first De La Hoya fight.

Of course Shane's not shot, if he were it'd completely ruin Floyd's nuthugging fans perspective of how much he accomplished by winning the fight. Yeah, we'll just ignore all the facts like Shane gassing after 3 or 4 rds, looking so tired he could barely repeat Nazim's command, stumbling around the ring, throwing punches that most of the time had nothing on them, complaining to the ref constantly. He seemed gun shy, afraid to get hit and afraid to engage. He was tight and nervous from the very begining. Most of that stuff I'd never seen from Shane and vivdly remember being shocked at what I was seeing. Of course if you ask Floyd's fans they'll tell you that none of that meant anything, Shane is in his prime. It's a lie, he's shot and needs to retire.

This isn't to take anything from Flyod. He proved all he needed to and I'm thoroughly convinced he would have beaten a prime Shane too, but let's be honest here other than a slight scare in the 2nd rd, this fight was probably easier for Floyd than JMM. Part of that was due to Floyd's brilliance the other part was due to Shane's shotness.

No one is going to say Shane is in his prime. Obviously Shane is past his best. I'm just saying that he's far from being "shot". This is the same Shane who fought Margarito and Mayorga...just this time he wasn't fighting face-first no skill brawlers. It's easy to maintain stamina when every punch you throw hits the target and you're not getting countered back.

But when you miss and are getting your head snapped back by crisp jabs a lead right hands....you're going to get worn down.

    Simple as that.

as larry merchant mentioned on the broadcast saturday night, "I know 2 people that seriously predicted shane mosley to win". it's not like going into the fight there were masses of people picking shane to win. his age and the long time inbetween fights factored into people's decision to pick floyd overwhelmingly pre-fight. phonetap expects sly to suck dick, he also expects the true boxing fans to call it like it is. floyd was floyd in that fight so it's fair to give him credit for what he always does. shane, on the other hand, was not shane mosley we've seen over the years. there's no way around that.

Shane has a history of looking like shit. People get so caught up in Mayweather being a ducker that when Shane called out Floyd they could say Floyd is scared of Shane, Floyd won't fight Shane even though Manny is clearly a better fighter and bigger fight for Floyd. I was one of the few people on here that didn't want to see the fight because Shane was past his prime. The Mayorga fight showed us that. Shane just proved how average Margarito really was, especially without his tortilla handwraps.

    Sure.

Look, I'll explain this again. When a guy is 'shot', and for the record I don't think Shane is, he is just obviously not the same fighter he once was, his level drops relative to that which he used to operate at.

So, for example, take Roy Jones. A prime Roy Jones was borderline unbeatable and a top twenty or so ATG. Now he is shot. However, even though he is about 1/5th the fighter he once was and is unable to beat any elite level guys (Calzaghe), he is still good enough to beat most C-Level (Hanshaw) and some B-Level guys (Lacy) because of his style and because his starting point in terms of skill and ability was so high.

Put another way- 20% of a prime Roy Jones is still better than a 100% version of maybe eighty out of every hundred fighters.

Now apply the same logic to a guy like Mosley. Bear in mind that, once upon a time, Mosley was unbeaten and considered a P4P number one contender. In other words, he was once a extremely good fighter and, as such, his starting level was very high. Not as high as Jones Jr, granted, but still very high.

Thus when his level diminishes to, say, about 50% of what he once was, he too is still able to beat C-Level and a lot of B-Level guys (a diminished Mayorga, just, Margarito minus his hidden knuckledusters and quite possibly Berto). But he is no longer able to beat elite level guys (Cotto) and nowhere near good enough to beat the very, very best guys like Mayweather and, in truth, may never have been good enough because Mayweather is also a top twenty or so ATG.

This is why he was a 4-1 underdog to win. Odds layers aren't stupid, and the line they offer reflects a similar line of thought.

Go back and watch the Mayorga fight and watch how shitty Shane looked. Not much different than last night. Then go back and watch the Margarito fight and observe how little resistance Tony put up. Hell, even a shot fighter can look good hitting a heavy bag, even if that heavy bag walks around the ring.

Also what happened the last couple fights doesn't really have to have a bearing on last night. Most of the Floyd groupies who try to claim Shane isn't shot keep mentioning that he wasn't in his last couple fights. Big deal. He was obviously shot last night, that is the point. Whether you think he was before is irrelevant, he definitely was shot last night. The dude couldn't even follow up on a hurt fighter and was visibly sucking air hard as a motherfucker.

I mentioned it plenty! In fact I was picking Berto since Shane was 38 and coming off over a year of inactivity and I thought a younger guy with speed was the exact right package to expose that! I didn't suddenly start making those obvious observations when it was Floyd's name on Shane's contract.

But going into that fight just like this one I said we can't be sure of anything because you never know how a guy that old was gonna hold up after that long a lay off. They might come back almost as good as last time or they might come back with compromised balance, ability to pull the trigger and stamina.

I can't believe people are even arguing about this - we've all followed boxing for years, we all had to have understood these things going in.

Floyd did a great job - he gets credit for A) taking the best fight available to him and B) for a truly impressive performance. Bravo Floyd! :bears: What he DOESN'T get credit for is beating a prime Shane or even the same Shane who beat Margarito because that guy no longer exists.
