Floyd Mayweather Sr. loves what he sees in Sycuan Ringside Promotions’ undefeated World Boxing Organization junior lightweight champion Joan Guzman.

“We just started working together, but I could tell right away that he’s got unbelievable talent,â€￾ said Mayweather Sr., who has trained future hall of fame boxers Floyd Mayweather Jr., his son, and Oscar De La Hoya.

He is a good fighter, but Floyd tends to exaggerate as we here all know.
He put Chad Dawson up there with Bob Foster and Archie Moore a few months back as well.
Guzmanhas a lot of potential and is very strong and determined, but still needs a lot of work shoring up some holes he has.

I think Guzman could give either Juan or Julio Diaz a run for their money, and would have a real good shot at beating Julio.

What about his fight with Katsidis? Have you seen this kid in action? I think Joan beats him bad.

What a load of bullshit that part is. Sycuan has a lot of nerve still claiming him as their fighter. All they do these days with any of "their" fighters is sit on their ass and wait for their handouts from other promoters doing all of the legwork.

The only thing Sycuan is responsible for in Guzman's career is shackling him up with 800 different promoters, many of whom still claim they have paper on him

Guzman-Katsidis is a fight that worries me a bit. Katsidis is a big guy who hits pretty damn hard. If he keeps up the constant pressure Guzman will trade with him. Eventually Guzman is going to move up 1 to many divisions if he hasn't already. From the Ashes told me he got +225 on Katsidis, I think that was an excellent bet.

If someone's going to say something as stupid as "Joan Guzman is #2, pound-for-pound, you probably shouldn't post it. It's tripe.

Doesn't surprise me Guzman has alot of skill. Sooner or later he will be on the P4P lists.

not too good - u get +275 almost everywhere where it's available at that point - plus when earl knocks katsidis down i'm pretty sure Guzman will tear him apart.

+225, +275, whatever. Either way it's to high. Katsidis will give Guzman problems for sure. He's a better version of Barrios IMO.

 in the longterm this is more then enuff to make a differnece between being sucessful or not. whatever...

And no it's not to high... Katsidis is completely untested was knocked on his arse by huuuuge puncher Graham Earl and has knocked out a lot of bums. Now that will help him against Guzman.

The odds are more than correct in my eyes considering the record/abilities of these two.

Just for the record, the only time I've seen Graham Earl he looked like ass on Showtime, I thought he looked like crap but even worse was the other fight televised

The Mayweathers are a pack of hoodlums. Nothing any of them say is true. Especially the "Not Guilty, Your Honour" bit.

I had Guzman drawing with Barrios. He looked pathetic. Lucky to beat JOE MORALES a couple of years back as well. Looked pathetic.

Im a big fan of Joan Guzman, but I honestly think he's in deep, not to mention I disagree with that statement of yours.

I understand numbers and percentages fine. No need to preach someone like me about numbers mattering. My point is +225, +275, whatever, I think it should be +200 (if even that high). Regardless, Guzman is facing a guy a lot like Barrios who outworked him a lot. He's going to have a tough time with Katsidis. Earl put him on his ass a minute but the only decent guy Guzman fought at 130 or 135 is Barrios. He is far from proven himself in these divisions.

how can people think Barrios gave Guzman problems? that fight was a schooling. ONly props Barrios gets is that he kept coming but he was outboxed easy for damn near the whole fight.

I do agree it's a big risk for Guzman to go up another weight class. Actually it makes no sense with all the big names at 130 he hasn't fought.

joan guzman in my opinion is top 5 p4p. not sure about him at 135, but overall his talent level and skills are up there.

imo, he should try to call out valero for a bout in s. america.

If he got that on your card, you're damn right. He held on, huffed and puffed and looked pathetic...even somewhat hurt and disenchanted at times. Even more lucky is he, that it was Morales he was fighting that night and not the originally scheduled opponent.

...and lucky he did. Losing rounds to Joe Morales is about the most disgusting sin imaginable for a pro-boxer.

Guzman is good but Pacquiao would destroy this guy.

He hit Javier Jauregui like 2000 times and didn't put a dent in him, and still had swelling over his eye.

A better fight would be him versus Fagquez. Fagquez would lose a wide decision though at this point, he's way too slow for Guzman.
