Floyd Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya at 135.

Oscar was much quicker and a more dangerous KO puncher as a lightweight. Does it make a difference?

I say NO.... Floyd at this weight is still quicker, more skillful, and more intelligent. Money May is just the better fighter at any weight and at any time in their careers.

Oscar was way too green @ 135 to beat Mayweather.

 

I have a hard time with Mayweather at 135... he looked pretty lousy other than vs. Ndou.

 

I thought both performances against Castillo were very good along with the N'Dou fight. Victoriano Sosa was a solid performance against a very awkward guy I felt.

 

At 140 or 147 I fancy Oscar.

At 135, Floyd.

 

Floyd tends to fight to the level of his opposition to be honest.

He didn't have any virtuoso performances at Lightweight (except Ndou I guess) but if he fought an Oscar there, he would have stepped up his game IMO.

I agree with Whiskey when he says De La Hoya was too raw to win this, so your prediction rings true.

Where I disagree is that it's clear-cut Mayweather was better at all stages. Like Hut, I think I might very well favour De La Hoya at 140-147. Im less than sure, but it'd be interesting vidwing. They each have attributes over one another there.

I would fancy De La Hoya circa-2002 or 03 to beat the Mayweather who beat him at Jr. Middle, but to be fair that was a cameo weight for Mayweather.

 

Floyd schools him. The only version of DLH that troubles Floyd is probably the late 90s welter incarnation.

 

I think it's similar to their actual fight in the sense of how competitive it is.

De La Hoya has some success, behind the jab and getting Floyd cautious of his power, but Floyd has more in his toolbox and an extra gear if he needs it.

Bingo. That fight was actually slightly embarrassing for Mayweather, and it speaks volumes as to how unclear a fight would be between them at the peak of their 147 tenures.

I don't think. Winning 1/3rd of the fight isn't troubling?

 

As I remember I had it 7-4-1 Floyd, so the answer to that, for me, is no. But Oscar had so little left, and he caused Floyd so many problems through the first 8 or so rounds (including Floyd really struggling to land for the only time in his career) that i came away thinking a prime Oscar would probably be too much for Floyd.

But at 135? Floyd, close.

 

Floyd wins this... Oscar was a dynamite puncher at 135 but still a bit green as a pro boxer... He was still largely one-handed... I think Floyd wins that pretty comfortably

At 147, I'd favor Oscar

 

I believe that 135 would be Oscar's best shot at beating Floyd, especially if it came after the Castillo fights. Floyd wouldn't take a single risk (not unlike their actual fight); the biggest question would be if Oscar could find his chin and catch him clean.

Floyd barely wins a decision, but the bullshit scores in their actual fight would probably ring true for this one.

 

The judge who had it for Oscar was at it, but I didn't think Floyd by 2 and Floyd by 4 were unreasonable. It was an even fight through the first 8 before Oscar did his customary final third swan dive.

I thought Mayweather won that fight pretty clearly... I think I had it 116-112 or 115-113, close, but not particularly difficult to score and there was no doubt in my mind Floyd won it clearly

 

Anyone who had Floyd losing did because he tried to. (TBH, I feel the same way about the first JLC fight)

 

^^^Castillo had more of an argument than De La Hoya though.

I recently watched it again and had it 7-5 for Mayweather. But there were a couple of rounds that could have swung in either direction.
