The Houston Strong Boy is back and making his MMA debut in Houston June 20th.

He is in great shape and has been training MMA for about 2 years now at the Savarese Fight Fit Gym in downtown Houston and is looking to score a big knockout so get your tickets early as it is sure to be a sellout. For more info go to savaresepromotions.com

    See you at the fights!

To be honest with the dismal state of the regional HW scene he probably could make the UFC if he's half-decent at FIGHTING.

I hope Savarese hasn't bitten off more than he can chew by stepping up to face the 1-7 light heavyweight who has been stopped in all 7 losses, and whose lone win came by disqualification for getting hit by an illegal knee.

This is a bigger joke than Mayorga's MMA charade a few weeks ago.

The other fellow is the one that wanted the fight evidently; and from what I understand he started an internet row with Savarese by smack typing to Savarese and Lou had enough of it.

This chap is going to be hurt very bad and knocked cold by Lou, this much I do know.

They should've fought in an alley instead. Trying to pass this off as a legitimate sporting event is an insult to everybody.

I understand Savarese is running a decent fight promotion company. I wish him luck. I am a huge fan of local boxing and MMA promotions.

Karl- Is this a mixed event or MMA only. It looks like there are a couple of undefeated boxers on the card and curious if they're boxing.

It is a mixed card from what I understand thus far, I'm supposed to go see him Friday morning and I'll find out more then.

He has promotional interests in MMA fighters and they have been training at his gym for a few years now, I know that much.

There is bad blood between these two fellows, so this could be fun for as long as it lasts as the guy apparently really insulted Lou, and Savarese is just about the nicest and easy-going guy I know of in the fight racket so whatever he said to get Lou's goat had to be pretty bad.

No, because ticket selling is not a problem with Savareses' shows, they all sell out well in advance.

I was following this stuff on facebook for several months and the guy apparently kept insulting Lou and he had enough of it.

For all of you guys that have met him, you know Savarese is a mellow and very down to earth chap that does not talk smack at all, so the insults IMO perhaps involved Lou's family.

Just a guess is all, but I am gonna see this one as Lou is out for blood, and I don't envy Papp at all.

I think it's gonna be a "Papp Smear" for this fellow.

It's just hard to believe that a guy with Lou's boxing background, having fought all-time greats, would let a guy that's 1-7 get under his skin.

The whole thing is nothing more than a scam.

Normally, you would give an advantage to an MMA fighter in an MMA fight against a boxer with no MMA experience, but it's clear from his record and the youtube clips, Papp has zero training in any discipline whatsoever. He's not an MMA fighter, no matter how many times he's fought. He's not even an athlete.

Savarese should be ashamed of himself for even allowing this to happen, and he should be even more ashamed of himself for accepting a single penny from anyone retarded enough to pay to watch it.

I used to be a fan of Lou. I don't want to see him in MMA. He has a zero percent chance of beating any UFC caliber heavyweight, much less successful heavyweights in smaller organizations. An over the hill 47 year old former boxer has no business getting into this sport.

He was a good heavyweight for his time. He beat some decent fighters. He was never the best in the world, and he was obviously nowhere near the level of guys like Mike Tyson.

He hasn't fought in boxing since he was 40. I don't think anyone wants to see him start an MMA career at 47.

Savarese won by KO in the first round.

The joint was packed with SRO so I figure he keeps on fighting as he is the promoter and folks here flock to wherever and whomever he fights.

    No.

This is not a scam, this is entertainment. So long as the fight is real, this is just good fun and an honest way to make a buck.

There are other reasons to fight. Let him have his fun. It's a free country and there are no apparent health issues going on, are there?

    Was the fight real?

uhh, novelty acts wear out. Good luck to Savarese having fun with this, but he's just a means to an end and the end isn't a successful mma career for him, unless success is solely based on making some modest $$. The end is more likely to help his promotions remain relatively successful.

Yes, it was a scam. A former heavyweight contender who has been in the ring with the best in the world against some loser who has no training in any fighting discipline whatsoever is a scam no matter how you try to spin it. The guy Savarese fought would've struggled to beat Hegman, that's how terrible he is.

    No doubt, MWS.

I just found out that chap had to take a trip to Ben Taub Hospital last night to get evaluated as he suffered a really bad beating at the hands of Savarese.

I could not make it due to work commitments, but some boxing friends of mine did and they all said it was brutal to watch.

Evidently, the guy ran out and tackled Savarese who threw the guy off of him and then decked him with a right.

The guy got up and was immediately dropped again with a combination and rose yet again to get clouted with a booming right hand that put him down and out for good.

He was unable to answer the Dr.'s questions satisfactorily and was transported to the ER where he was held for awhile before being diagnosed with a concussion and released.

There were over a thousand people there on a work night which is capacity, and those seats, particularly ringside and tables, are not cheap.

It looks like Savarese will continue with this, but perhaps his next opponent will prove to be more of a test, I don't know.

I think he can make a good deal of money with his name, and he certainly is a step up from Riddick Bowe now.

Don't be surprised if that match takes place in the fall is what I'm thinking as it would do a great deal of business and Lou is a smart and enterprising fellow.

If I can find a link to the match from last night, I'll post it up.

Again; I was not there folks, this is second hand info I received but what I can confirm is that Savarese annihilated the fellow in the first round.

Fantastic! And you can tell he wasn't there to lie down, as he got up two times from a heavyweight boxer's punches...

To the dismay of MMA fans everywhere, Savarese indicated this was likely a "one and done" for him in MMA.
