Forrest Whitaker is a lot more talented. Morgan Freeman ain't exactly the greatest actor - just a lot of charisma/presence, and a great voice for movies.
You gotta understand that guys like Forrest Whitaker and Philip Seymour Hoffman HAVE TO BE very good actors... cause they're ugly. While hacks like Johnny Depp and Will Smith can by cause they're good looking movie stars, these ugly MF's (Whitaker and Hoffman) got to where they are PURELY off acting their asses off.
I was never huge on Depp. He had an eccentric weirdness kind of appeal to him, but I never thought he was some riveting actor.
He was "good" in Donnie Brasco. I dunno about outstanding. There's been far better performances in mob movies - one being from the man he co-starred with. I'm not saying Depp was a bad actor - he was above average, but I've never seen him as this acting savant that he was hyped to be. His best performance was probably Ed Wood.
He was outstanding, not merely good He was great as Ed Wood And the pirate movies may be kids stuff, but he was excellent in them... convincingly chewing the scenery and acting the fool the way you have to if you’re going to do movies like that
