The past few weeks I've read how Alex Ariza won't work with Amir Khoward over money and now I've read pretty much the same is true with Ariza and the upcoming Pacquiao-Mosley fight.

If memory serves me correctly, didn't Justin Fortune (Ariza's predecessor) leave under similar circumstances...money?

Also, after Pacquiao flattened Hatton and Michael Moorer received praise for assisting in Pacquiao's training....he was let go not long after. This time it wasn't over money it was how he ran the gym...I remember Moorer flatly saying Freddie's not around alot and when Freddie's gone he runs the gym.

I think Freddie's a decent enough guy "however" in the last several "24/7's" he's talked as much shit if not more than what Floyd has gotten criticized for. Is it possible he's developed an ego problem and has to be the biggest (or second biggest after pacquiao and Khoward) guy in the room?

    Thoughts?

Can you expand a bit on the connection between Roach's ego and Ariza and Moorer?

Are you suggesting those guys left because Roach is a dick? I'd be inclined to say that's probably true.

One thing I don't like about Roach (among others) is the degree to which he disparages his fighers' opponents before the fight. It's not uncommon for trainers to do it, but that doesn't make it any less unprofessional when Roach does it.

I know in the case of Khoward and Ariza its a personal thing between Ariza and Khoward's dad. With that said, I'd read where Khoward Jr. previously praised Ariza's regiment and how he's benefitted...the same holds true for Pacquiao after Fortune left the Wildcard fold.

Wildcard is Freddie's gym...I guess what I'm saying is Freddie can easily say this is my guy (meaning Ariza and before him Fortune) and I'm sticking with him. Khoward and Manny are his biggest two cash cows...it's a better story (for him) to not share credit for turning these guys around.

I recall Fortune and Freddie originally fell out because Fortune worked the corner for Manny's fight with Solis I believe...don't think Freddie made that trip. Fortune said he spent the majority of time training manny at that time then after the fight went down Freddie wanted a fully trainers share.

Ariza told a similar story about training Khoward.

As far as Moorer is concerned...we all saw the "24/7" episodes with Moorer in the ring teaching Manny the exact shot that KO'd Hatton...at the press conference afterward someone mentioned that and Freddie was fairly dismissive of Moorer's contribution...not long after Moorer was gone from Wildcard.

It's almost like if anyone else in the gym gets a name he's out of there not long after. Speaking of which...if I'm that retarded guy...I'd watch my step around Freddie.

There's certainly a lot of truth to this, and it honestly disgusts me that Roach is deemed untouchable by the boxing fraternity. I can't think of another entity in the sport who gets as much of a free pass as he does.

I remember watching some of the 24/7's with Moorer - at the time he seemed to be an integral member of the team. I always thought his departure was rather strange..

One thing's for sure. Roach has gone out of his way to take credit for his fighters' success. It's hard to blame him for being proud. But you'd hope that if he's quick to give himself credit, it wouldn't be at the expense of his fellow trainers - that he'd be quick to give them credit too.

Just to add fights to the timeline...Roach trained Oscar in Puerto Rico for the Mayweather fight in May 2007. Manny fought Jorge Solis that April. I'd have to check the tape and I can't recall if Freddie worked the corner...even if he did he didn't train Manny for that fight, he was in PR with Oscar.

In that respect I could see Fortune getting pissed if Freddie received a full trainers share.

Freddie was there - to the point of pissing off Fortune and Arum, who at the time hated Freddie due to his involvement w/ Oscar and (Arum's) belief that he engineered the attempt to steer Pacquiao towards Golden Boy.

In fact, Roach got pissy because Arum made out the trainer's check to Fortune and not Roach, stating that he was paying the trainer that actually did the work. The fight itself was the only time Freddie spent with Pacquiao from March onward.

That wasn't a very good stretch for Roach - earlier that year, he threw Israel Vazquez under the bus for quitting against Marquez in their first fight and insisted that he needed to retire right then and there. Whoops. Two months later, Oscar fell short against Floyd.

The only fight that Freddie "won" in between was Pac against Solis - the one fight for which he couldn't honestly accept any of the credit (even though he still went out of his way to claim it)

Khan and his sort are notoriously tight with the cash.

I've been wondering about Roach for some time. As I said before if anyone has motive to use performance enhancers it is him. If anyone is running out of time- it is him.

Roach is decidedly snide and has a lot of people fooled with this "I'm a cripple, don't hit me" lark.

"his sort?" (coming from anyone else, I wouldn't need to ask)

Anyway, cosign on all the negative comments about Roach. He's a dick, a douchebag, and completely overrated.

I'm not one to say how Roach should run his business. This world is full of sleazy leeches, and Roach must've seen his share of leeches throughout his life, he's not a dumb guy. I mean, he single-handedly brought up his gym from zero. He's the boss of his joint. That being said, he's got a big mouth. He should let the fighters do the talk. He comes off as a cocky cunt.

Its the way he speaks, with the side of his head plastered onto his shoulder, putting down fighters...saying that Hatton "was never that good" etc. What a dunski. His fighter youtubes another one and he comes along and diminshes the result.

He is the TRAINER of the best FIGHTER in the world right now. I have no problem with Roach. How he conducts his business, it's just that... HIS business.

Any other trainer with the SUCCESS he has had with Pacquaio, while enduring false accusations, JEALOUSY, would be talking a lot more trash than he has so far. He is very CONFIDENT in Pacquaio's future fights with whomever, that is evident.

I get tired of Roach's mouth. He in fact gives people fuel to criticize Pacquiao's wins by his words AFTER the fights. Not beforehand, when people just say things to play mind games or hype the fight. After Pacquiao beat De La Hoya, Roach talked about how Oscar was drained and could barely run around the track. After the Hatton fight, Freddie says "Hatton was not very good for a world champ".

Then afterwards he says "why do people make excuses for all of Manny's wins?".

They're saying the same damn thing Freddie himself is saying!

Who cares? He's having his (shaky) day in the sun before his impending death.
