This is a continuation of an interview with boxing’s legendary trainer, Freddie Roach that took place in the WildCard gym, Hollywood, California, July 23 & 24. Previously, Freddie had predicted the results of upcoming fights and gave us his P4P picks. Not afraid of looking around the corner, Freddie dissects a possible 2010 super mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the P4P champ, Manny Pacquiao.

Am I the only guy on this forum who wants Floyd to beat Pacquiao?

Yeah, I've always been a big Mayweather fan - I have never cheered against him, even when he fought Gatti.

I love Pacquiao too. The only time I can remember wanting him to lose was vs. MAB.

I'm sure Pacquiao is a nicer guy, but I like Floyd's style more and I hope he wins. The only guy I would maybe root to beat Floyd is Mosley, and that's a big maybe.

well I'm quietly on this kind of wagon myself. Pac is where the buck stops for me, as he's my favorite active fighter. But I'll be rooting for Floyd against Marquez if that happens, and have rooted for him continuously.

I mean, he's a jackass, but he's very very good.

Yeah, I don't think anyone works harder than Floyd and he deserves everything he's accomplished. I just want to see the fight.

I was telling people Floyd was the best fighter in the world long before everyone else was, so I'm riding this one out to the end.

I always found Floyd to be a boring motherf*cker both in and out of the ring. He basically lived in the shadows of Jones Jr, Hopkins, De La Hoya, Hamed, Trinidad, Vargas, Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, etc, etc, etc for years. Only when all those guys were shot, got old and/or retired did people start clinging on to the Floyd wagon as there were no other prime fighters left or worth watching.
This guy thinks he's a bigger star than he is. He's not. His 2 year absence and nobody giving a sh*t about him is proof that he's just not that big a deal. And looking at the reports of his fight with Marquez selling poorly, he's beginning to find out just how irrelevant he is to the sport. He's not that big a deal. And his style is not appealing at all. Nobody needs to understand boxing fundamentals to realize Floyd is a boring cautious scared f*ck with a big mouth. He needs a major ass whipping and Pac Man is gonna deliver it to him! If Floyd's bitch ass has the guts to get it on!

 He ain't ever fought anybody in their primes, steve. The guy was literally crying and down on his knees after beating GATTI! Come on! And he still barely edged a shot inactive Oscar. Prime Oscar would've sent this cocksucker to the grave! Best fighter in the world my ass! He became the 'best fighter' when every other star out there got old and shot and retired. When guys like Lennox, Tyson, Roy, Hops, Toney, Trinidad, Oscar, Hamed, etc were all still fighting(while they were still fairly young and capable), nobody knew or cared at all about Floyd.

I've been with you for awhile. I remember when Roy lost to Tarver, and the two camps were Hopkins and Floyd, I think we were both for Floyd since.

I knew and cared about Floyd. All of this is irrelevant to me Hanzy. It's a personal taste. I love watching Floyd fight, he has never bored me. His ability to adapt to any style by round 3 or 4 of every fight earns him a ton of respect in my book.

Skills pays the bills, Hanzy. :nono:

The fact that he couldn't pay his bills is why he's back in boxing, stevie.
But all those big paydays are coming to an end soon when Pacman tears his f*cking spine out of his back and exposes him to the world as an overrated chump who made his name beating shot guys and nobodies. He's never had any epic fights. His whole 'legacy' for lack of a better term is based on his streak.

Niether has Pac. MAB may have been ranked high at the time, but wasn't in his prime.

Pac hasn't fought a highly touted young fighter, ever. Cotto will be the closest he comes to this.

Floyd on the other hand fought Corrales when he was young, up and coming, and undefeated.

And I HATE Floyd, but I calls them like I sees them.

Freddie Roach: "Manny Will Break Mayweather Apart at 126 if Floyd wants to move down and make a fight"

He may be talking about Sr. Pac does fight nothing but old men, Floyd may be too young.

    bitter ricans dont count.

Steve_Dave aka "Hard as Fuck" is speaking from a non-marquez goggles perspective, which is what makes him unique.

I disagree. It all depends on what you consider a guys prime, because if you're going by a guys age, some guys like MAB and Hopkins arguably got much better when they were older. The same can be said about JMM. Both of these guys were destroying their competiton so let's not sit there and pretend that Pacquiao was fighting some overrated fluff. Both of these guys were on win streaks I believe when Pac beat them. The only guy I'd say who wasn't in his prime was Moralles and ODLH. Hatton would have gotten blitzed the same way at any point in his career, because he just doesn't have the style or skills to beat Manny.

Now if you want to say it's arguable that Pac even won his fights with JMM, I'd give you that one, but to say he hasn't fought prime comp is ridiculous.

Also, when it comes to Floyd's defeat of the great Coralles, he was little more than an unknown slugger who had done a hell of a lot less than JMM and MAB had when Floyd defeated him. I don't want to take anything away from Coralles, he was a great fighter, but he was very limited, didn't fight intelligently, and had a strong weakness for boxers as Freitas also proved.

So if I had to pick I'd say Manny has definitely proven himself a lot more than Floyd has, and Manny likewise seems to want to prove himself more than Floyd "Money is my excuse" Mayweather.

Now, I'm not hating on Floyd, because I actually like him but I calls it like I see it.

He makes a good point about the middle of the fight.
Pac will start the faster of the two, but PBF will NOT solve him/ break him down / discourage him mid-fight a-la DLH/ Hatton & others. Pac is too irrepressible, fit & yes he IS faster overall than PBF.

    yes you are.

    here's a scenario...

marquez beats floyd, Cotto beats Pac.

    What then?

I don't care if Pac loses to Willie Lump Lump...just let someone ANYONE beat the dogcrap out of Floyd.

It's not really about speed here...Floyd is a counterpuncher. We've seen how Pac had problems with JMM.

Let's say Mayweather beats Marquez and Pac beats Cotto, at what weight will they fight? Will Manny be big enough to force Mayweather to fight lower than 147? What will Mayweather say? What will be his weight stipulation?:stir:
