NEW YORK (Oct. 3, 2008) – Four undefeated prospects stepped into the ring Friday’s but only two boxers walked out with their perfect records intact as James De la Rosa earned a unanimous decision over Tim Coleman and Fernando Guerrero outpointed Tyrone Watson on ShoBox: The New Generation. In front of a packed crowd of at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, Maryland., De la Rosa (18-0, 12 KOs) was gunning for a knockout over Coleman (14-1-1, three KOs) but had to dig deeper for the victory. Was glad to see Coleman give a good account of himself. A lot of people sleep on him, thinking his record suggests he's a feather-fist and that better fighters can walk through him. Was a little surprised to see Guerrero go the distance, though he still dominated in the process. I've been high on him since the amateurs.
that fight with Guerrero should've been stopped before reaching the distance. I mean watching that, it was the kind of fight where someone gets seriously injured. Watson had no chance to win, he was absorbing punch after punch and on the brink of being stopped for a good 9 minute stretch of action.
My tevo ran out in the 9th round. Unless Dela Rosa dropped Coleman that was a bad decision. I had Coleman winning every round but 2.
I guess a case could be made for Coleman winning the fight. I'm biased toward Tim and have never been a fan of de la Rosa (or his brother), but didn't have much of a problem with the final outcome. I thought a draw was the fairest verdict, was a little surprised it wasn't at least a split or majority decision.
