man, this guy has no luck getting close decisions. he pretty much walked down eric morel over 12 but lost via split decision. he was robbed twice vs. in joo cho in korea, should've won at least one of the two fights vs. tokuyama and should've won the 122 strap vs. de leon.
He lost against Ponce De Leon. You don't win a fight landing 1 or 2 punches each round, as clean as they are.
I thought Cho deserve the decisions against him, as well, too. And it's not like Tokuyama fights were bad decisions.
I thought he won as well, and it was clever for Al to announce that disclaimer after the final bell towards Morel.
i was at the first fight and most ringside folks thought cho got a gift. the rematch wasn't even all that close i thought. both tokuyama fights were close, but i'm saying, penalosa has never been on a receiving end of close fights.
I liked Cho, but he was a spoiler cutie, always prone to close fights. Perhaps the fights seemed different in person, or perhaps you are right that Penalosa deserved them. I watched them long ago so I don't remember specifics only that I thought the decisions were fine. As to your last point, I'm sure you're right. Penalosa was considered an unseen stud. Then he had a dominant, but non-ko performance in a non-title fight on the USA network. That was the first time most americans saw him and they liked what they saw. Looking at boxrec, it must have been the Saucedo fight.
Maybe, but he EASILY beat Morel the other night. Fucking clear as day. Duane Ford is a bloody criminal. 116-112 is a shameful card. And if anyone thinks De Leon beat Penalosa clearly or something needs to watch that fight again. It was razor thin and Ponce got hit by alot of big ones.
Most fighters called Gerry are born losers. Quarry, Cooney, Ruiz. You name it. When your surname actually contains the following letters PenaLOSA then you are pretty much fucked.
I agree with your take on this. Gerry retire? He just fucked Morel up pretty clear cut. His arms are too short? WTF he aint Cupey. :dunno:
