Get Out

What an overrated movie. It's okay at best. People are trying to make out like it's groundbreaking and a microcosm of society. Bullshit. It's a half assed horror/sci fi plot using racism.

I mean Best Picture nomination? WTF! Best actor?! WTF.

 

Indicative of how few decent movies there are now.

 

I'm speaking as a black man here.... I agree. Well I definitely concede that it's smartly constructed and written... it just wasn't that good...

 

I enjoyed it. Fun movie. Not great or profound but enjoyable and funny

 

I wouldn't worry though, Get Out won't win Best Picture. There's a fag movie nominated

 

Problem is... it's hyped as a great and profound.

Motherfuckers act it's as socially poignant as Do The Right Thing.

 

I liked it. It wasn't "great" by any stretch...but it was a unique film and it highlighted the subtle forms of racism that black people face nearly every day.

 

FUCK Do the right thing! Fuck it! I'm tired of hearing about that fucking film.

 

I can't expect a black Brit to "get" the significance of DTRT. It means more to us black Americans.

Racism doesn't exist. It's just a word and concept that Obama created while in Africa.

 

I liked it a lot. Movie was probably ruined for a lot of people by too many commentators putting too many social connotations on it.

It's also more of a character study then a "horror" movie, if people are going into expecting to get scared out of their minds.............they're not. It's more of a psychological thinker I guess.

Also, I'm sure many conservative viewers would appreciate it better if they actually watched it and understood that the film is taking pot shots at the "liberal white view" of race, much more prominently then the easier to mine "conservative white view" of race.

 

I'd much rather the Academy nominate a movie like this rather then the dozens upon dozens of shitty boring, nearly unwatchable British period dramas that have gotten nominated throughout the years.

That a genre piece like this actually gets taken seriously is pretty ok by me.

Exactly. It’s more to do with the liberal white view of race; going out of your way to try to make the black man feel welcome and in doing so just succeed in making him uncomfortable by coming across as patronizing etc and showing that you see him as a black man first and man second. Black people know that such characters mean well, so we don’t complain...but it doesn’t make it any less uncomfortable.
