First of all, I want to thank all my fans out there who were clamoring for me to bring back the legendary weekly box office report. After a long hiatus (like 4 weeks?) here it is for your enjoyment!

Girl On The Train was able to bypass mixed reviews and took the top spot with $24.7 million. Since it is based on a very popular novel its success was no big surprise among its mostly female audiences (68% of ticket buyers).

In the second place is last week's winner Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children which had only a 48% drop and took $15 million for a current total of $51 million domestically. The film is performing even better overseas for a worldwide current total of $145 million. It looks like this might become Tim Burton's first film in seven years that doesn't bomb..or it is too early to say that?

In the third place is Mark Walhberg's Deepwater Horizon which had a small drop (42%) in its second week at the tune of $11.7 million for a two weeks total of $38.5 million. These numbers are no good for the $110 million budget film as the international numbers are not better than the domestic ones.

Descending to the fourth spot The Magnificent Seven is holding nicely with a 41% drop and $9.1 million for a three weeks total of $75.9 million. Not earth shattering numbers, but performing better than that other western remake 'The Lone Ranger'.

In the fifth place we have the animated film Storks which added $8.4 million to its arks for a $50.1 million domestic gross. The curse of the WB is here again as the film is under-performing even for its modest budget.

Bombing on its debut is the controversial The Birth of a Nation which was able to connect only in certain mostly black communities, but not everybody was buying it as it took only measly $7.1 million. While media writers blame the controversial rape case of its main actor/director for its poor performance even while gathering glowing reviews, the fact that it promoted itself as a sort of Black Lives Matter film didn't won any tickets from white folks that were looking for escapism from the crappy current headline news.

Also performing below expectations is the comedy Middle School: The Worst Years of my Life which debuted in the seventh spot with a poor $6.9 million. However this film has a chance to get its investment back and could even show a profit as its budget was a mere $8.5 million.

In other news Disney's Finding Dory finally reached the $1 billion mark worldwide making it the third 2016 movie to reach that number. All of those 3 films have been Disney movies. Also Suicide Squad have become the second most successful R-rated movie of all time just slightly behind Deadpool. The DC villains team-up has performed better than all the X-Men movies, the first two Iron-Man films, the first two Captain America films, The Amazing Spider-Man, The two Thor movies, Ant-Man, etc and it will most likely tie the numbers of 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' AND Guardians of the Galaxy! If the 'Justice League' movie next year doesn't outperform this film, the no-brainer is to go out with a bang and have the Suicide Squad vs Justice League in a mega smashdown (I know, even their combined efforts will be no match for the 'Meta-Humans', but this is Warner Bros and Zack Snyder we are talking here!

Thanks Panchy. I never in my lifetime thought the simple image of seeing Emily Blunt stare out a train window, would cause such a negative knee jerk reaction to the entire art of film-making, right down in the bowels of my guts.
