Gonzalez clearly for both, unless one wants to argue that diaperweights are less meaningful because of the lack of competition
I'm not sure what the Choco "clearly" greater argument is. I think by saying "clearly" it furthers my point that Chocolatito is extremely overrated. I could go with Choco "slightly" but I'd love to here what the "clearly" sentiment is. Better? I could lean there towards Chocolatito, though I wouldn't object to a MAB opinion. Choco would never be considered top 3 P4P in an era when Jones, Floyd, Hopkins, and Tito were all in their physical primes, which is the era MAB had to stack up to. Choco held the P4P mantle in a weaker talent era, as a whole. I'm not quite as harsh as Azazel; I do think Choco deserves the label of ATG. But you can be an ATG and still be overrated. I think Barrera and Gonzalez are pretty close overall. So close in fact that I would edge Barrera for greatness, but Gonzalez for better.
Chocolatito doesnt have a win that comes close to the hamed or morales wins. If you value consistency and longevity highly (way too highly imo) i guess an argument can be made for him. But im baffled by the suggestion that he's clearly greater than mab
Gonzalez was a better inside fighter. If Barrera chose that path in a battle he'd lose If he chose to box when he was at his peak he'd have been more competitive vs the older version of Gonzalez we saw Saturday he could win. He wasn't as athletic as Estrada either tho He is mexican and had more options. Gonzalez could've easily had ioka on his resume but dude refused that smoke
Yup. Glad other posters are starting to see it as well. "Clearly" greater than Barrera my ass. I agree with Neil that Gonzalez was a better infighter. I also give Choco the edge as a combination puncher. But Barrera had some advantages as well. He was quicker/more athletic than Choco, more versatile, and a better jab. And yes, any way which a Choco fan would try to slice it, there's no one on Choco's resume like Morales or Naz.
Barrera is the greater of the two; but I do think Gonzalez was a better fighter. Barrera just accomplished more - and I'd say quite clearly so.
