Both among the 10 best pressure fighters OAT. Who do you rank higher all time? Who was better? Rock is horribly underrated on this forum, so I expect Chavez to get all the votes.
Truth of the matter is it's unfair against Marciano. Guy was a midget by the standards of the day but had he been around at the same time as Chavez he'd have dwarfed Chavez as a star and asca talent. Marciano would have been a two division champion at 175 and 190 (the old cruiser limit). And he'd have been doing it in style. He'd have been really suited to the day-before weigh in and the 12 round format. There's no fighters- certainly not two of them- that take Marciano for a walk between 1984 and 1994 at 175 or 190. Not Mike Moorer or Roy Jones or James Toney. Marciano would have been in there with big names and forging a really high-profile status for himself.
Chavez easily the more skilled fighter. Hard to say who is greater though. Marciano had some great names on his resume. Say what you will about them being over the hill fighters by the time he got to them but having Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore for me trumps Rosario, Camacho, Taylor, R Mayweather, Haugen, Ramirez.
