Both guys have an argument for 2nd greatest Latin fighter ever. I'm not mad at a greatest argument either way. Better? I would say Monzon, despite the fact that Arguello had a style that was FAR more pleasing. Monzon was just a lot tougher to beat. It pains me to say, because as people they were polar opposites. One was one of the nicest guys in boxing history, while the other was a murdering sociopath.
Monzon is the.kind.of guy that doesnt.look too good, but that knows how to win. Id say he was better than Arguello
Monzon is better H2H imo, but Arguello does better hypothetically against greats across multiple weights..
Very true. Monzon obviously didn't have a super middle division to conquer, but I suspect he would beat any super middle in history not named Jones.
P4P, I'd probably have Monzon inside the top 30 and Arguello outside it. Better? Hard to argue against a guy who went unbeaten in over 80 fights and 13 years to the end of his career. He found ways to win even when he didn't look great doing it. Arguello found a way to lose to Vilomar Fernandez. That's the main difference.
Monzon was more dominant in one weight class while Arguello jumped up and became a 3 weight champ. Hard to pick since I love both fighters but might have to pick Monzon on this one. Monzon always seemed to know how to fight his fight and come out on top. Although I do find Arguello to be more entertaining to watch.
