Is George greater than the man he had a massive crush on, Oscar De La Hoya?

Foreman had a longer more accomplished career. Hoya had some great moments in spurts. In other words foreman wins the marathon.... hoya wins the drag race.

Foreman had 2 losses in his 1st career. The first was to not just an ATG but the GOAT ....he lost because he was green and dumb and went all out maniacally Vs the GOAT.

His second was a torrid points loss to another very good boxer where he was overcome by heat exhaustion against a guy who was a noted spoiler/survivor type of guy.

2 losses in an ATG period.

Oscar had probably ready lost TWICE before he turned Mary Dekker in the Tito fight..

I think it was 1976 George strung together 4 wins in a row that would, 9n its own, merit considerable attention.

His comeback was remarkabke and JOF all on its own. He fought Holy, Moorer, Schulz Savarese, Briggs, Stewart, shot Cooney, and had a fight with Holmes lined up. His comp, even without winning the title, was on a par with some of the shit Oscar beat up. Dudes like Forbes, Rivera, Coley, Gatti , Charpentier etc. Come on man.

He's greater than Oscar and it's not really close. George probably revolutionised the idea of life after 40 for tens of millions of people not just in the USA but around the World.

Oscar revolutionized cross dressing in the Latin communiy. That's it.

    Foreman.

Oscar is really known more for his losses than his wins.

Its his own fault.... Put the spikes on and runned off!

Worst of all he came out and said that the nature of his loss would not affect his endorsements

To be honest, I think it s much closer than you're all saying. Foreman resume is mostly centered on the Frazier and Norton wins. Apart from them, there is not much there (please don't say Chuvalo or Lyle, solid wins but far from ATG stuff). Sure the Moore win was huge but that was because of his age, not because Moore was a great hw.

Lol no. There is nothing close about this! It's lopsided as fuck.

Foreman has arguably the most devastating title-winning performance in history... over a GREATER and considerably better fighter than Oscar.

Foreman is a fighter we'll never see again.

Oscar was a homeless man's ripoff of Leonard.

This is George by several light years.

He doesn't have an argument here. Foreman peaked higher, has better wins, and more significant accomplishments.

What on Earth would be Oscar's case? The man lost every single one of his big fights.

Both of Foremans title wins came against ATG HOF fighters. He was a heavy underdog on both. Both results were totally beyond dispute.

Michael Moorer is absolutely not an all time great. He isn't even a better fighter than Ike Quartey.

How is it close when Oscar doesn't have a definitive big win? The man is a career choke artist.

Oscar never beat anyone as good as Norton, let alone Frazier.

Foreman is a top 5-6 heavyweight.

Oscar isn't top 5-6 in any division.

This is not close. Foreman was both greater, and in 73-74 he peaked much higher than Oscar ever did.

The Moorer win is what really puts this outta reach for Oscar. Though Moorer was no great... Foreman was 45. His history-making win, plus his reign in the 70s, puts him above Oscar's choke artist career.

I don't know why it's even a question. You would have to reach far AF to make a pro-Oscar argument.

Oscar did arguably in fact lose his biggest fights.

I don’t care what anybody says, he lost to Ike Quartey CLEARLY. If it wasn’t for his 12th round rally, I think most people would remember that fight much differently.

He was arguably edged out by an old Whitaker.

And he was throughly outboxed by Felix Sturm.

Thats 3 more losses that could go on his record.

In order to replicate what comeback Foreman did Oscar would need to be 40 years old, weight-drained to shite and KO say a peak Zab for the welter title.

35-year old DLH couldn't even stop Forbes

Only Moorer should be rated higher than Judah.

True, but most felt he won vs Trinidad and Mosley II, so it goes both ways (just like Oscar lol )

I’ve always felt the same about the Quartey fight. I thought that was pretty easy to score and that DLH was very fortunate to get the win. The last round made people forget how little Oscar did for much of the fight (especially rounds 7-11) and how mediocre most of the fight was. Oscar definitely got a gift against Sturm.

On the other hand, I thought Oscar was far ahead enough against Tito that he won that won that even after losing rounds 10-12. I thought the Whitaker fight could have gone either way (I had it 113-113).

I thought the Mosley rematch could have gone either way, I didn’t think it was a huge robbery like HBO and Compubox suggested. I wonder how that would have been viewed as a win for Oscar. Would it be highly regarded, or not as much due to Mosley being in a down part of his career (no wins for 2 years) and never as good at 154.

I think it’s fair to argue Oscar was ahead against Tito, but I feel that it was from the 8th round on, that he started to go more in retreat because Trinidad was beginning to land with more consistency and he simply didn’t believe he could take the heat, so he ran out the clock in hopes that he had banked enough rounds but he apparently didn’t, so that was that.

Whitaker-De La Hoya had a lot of hard rounds to score. A lot of nothing rounds, where an argument for either could be made. But whenever Whitaker opened up, he pretty much landed when he wanted. Those 116-110 score for Oscar or whatever it was did not tell the real story.

I had the second fight with Oscar and Shane a draw. Oscar was brilliant early but faded and choked late.

Not sure how anyone could have argued a W for Oscar against Sturm. That fight was not close.

Oscar's legacy is hurt by the fact that he didn't do a Trinidad rematch at 154. Tito wanted it. Oscar did not. And the reason for that is simple... they BOTH knew that Trinidad was drained at 147. Oscar also never granted Whitaker or Ike a rematch.

He has zero case in the world for being greater than Foreman.

Oscar’s legacy could have been better if he fought Forrest after Vernon beat Shane, but Oscar at times was a bit of a cherry picker.
He cherry picked Mosley when Shane was at his lowest point and he just happened to not get the decision.

He could have also faced Winky Wright at 154 but he probably felt he couldn’t win that one either.
