Who's your top 5. I have : Pacquiao PBF Jones Lewis Hopkins Also,.do you think there is an argument for putting rj and or hopkins above pbf, or is he clearly greater than both?
1. I would take out Lewis and replace him with Whitaker on my list. I have the same list otherwise. 2. Floyd was both greater and better than Hopkins. Whereas Floyd vs Roy is the classic case of a difference in greater vs better. Floyd being greater, but Roy was better. I actually think the gap in better is larger than the gap in greatness. I only consider Floyd slightly greater than Roy. I consider Roy better by some distance.
Yeah, forgot about the pea. Id rank him at 4, and have to decide whether to drop bhop or lewis. So, you would rate rj above pbf? Maybe its the constant nuthugging by new fans, or the interminable and pathetic last years of his career, but it seems a bit heretical to put rj above pbf. Though, when thinking about it, it's true that the difference is rather small, if inexistant. Rj has has the best win by far between the two, but his resume is a bit shallower.
Only casuals would think Floyd is greater by a wide margin, because Floyd is all they know, and they think of Roy as that guy that got KOd and fought in a Tyson exhibition. Roy's reign was more dominant, and Roy has the more impressive wins of the two. The Toney win is better than any single Floyd win, and beating a pre-prime Hopkins with a broken hand is more impressive than beating a pre-prime Canelo.
Must say it's a bit weird to see pbf ending up as probably a greater fighter than Roy. Nobody would have thought that, even after pbf destroyed Corrales. Must give it to sly, i think he was the only one that called it
Roy, Leonard, and Duran are the three best fighters of the last 50 years. Theres a case for Floyd not making the top 5 in that regard.
Sly didn't call shit. Someone pointed out (maybe it was you) that he jumped ship after the Tarver KO. Pre-Tarver II, Sly said that Roy was the best fighter of all time. Unlike REED, Muzse, and myself, he proved to be a fraud Jones fan.
Id probably also put Pacquiao up there. The way he was terrorizing these mexican legends was simply astonishing
That's true, but he was among pbf greatest early supporter. At that point, most of us rated mosley higher than him (though to be honest, im far from sure a prime mosley doesnt best him). Let him have his little moment in the sunshine. After all, didn't happen often since the poor guy was pretty clueless about boxing
Sly wasn't bad in the early 00s. He was a good poster. He was assinine in his Mosley hate, but other than that he was quality. I think he lost touch for the sport somewhere in the 2010s. But back to the topic of Roy vs Floyd, I'm glad that Max Kellerman enlightened the casual fans on ESPN when he said that Roy and Floyd were in their primes at the same time, and at the time NO ONE considered Floyd to be as good.
