According to the Sherdog homepage. Damn, it seems like ever since they started offering fighters insurance, a lot more bouts are cancelled. Is that just my perception or is it really happening?

I feel like Condit should get a crack at it. The way he crunched Dan Hardy was electrifying, and if he could avoid takedowns (I know---a tall order), he'd make it interesting with his standup.

yea. i feel bad for him considering he was first slated to fight penn, then gets a notice to fight gsp for the title to now sitting out until gsp is ready.

as for that chump diaz, he ditches the press conference, loses his title shot, but still ends up getting a significant fight vs. penn, which now has been elevated as the main event. go figure.

Condit didn't deserve the shot to begin with.

Diaz is damn lucky to have been pulled from the GSP fight. If not he'd be sitting at home watching 137, now he's the friggin main event again.

This is why having a great co-main event is crucial in MMA. This is still a good card.

THey should at the very least make BJ Penn Diaz fight 5 rounds. UFC has so many damn injuries I wonder if they would scrap the card if Diaz/Penn fell through too. If not then I wonder what it would take ? It seems UFC never scraps cards they just move preliminary crap up to the televised .

They can't change the length of the Penn-Diaz fight because it was contracted at 3 rounds.

Also, Diaz-Penn is 100% PPV Main Event worthy. You have the 170 pound champ from Strikeforce fighting an All Time great who has looked good in his recent stint at 170. This is a headlining fight.

But again, it's supported by pretty good bouts as well. The Mitrione-Kongo fight is very interesting and a good test for Meathead. And personally I'm really looking forward to Hioki's UFC debut. Roop is a great opponent for him.

I will admit that I thought they'd move the Donald Cerrone fight to the main card and slide the Curran fight to the Spike slot but I guess they were committed.

Injuries are hell for the UFC. It's tough to train for all aspects of the sport and stay injury free.

Yeah, they can change the length of the fight. It just takes $ and agreement. I don't think they even tried based upon how fast everything happened.

Diaz Penn, imo, isn't main event worthy. I expect that this ppv will bomb and bomb badly.

Yeah an agreement. Both fighters would have to agree to it. If not, they cant do it. BJ has been training for a 3 round fight. I doubt he would agree to changing it.

Yeah, I can't see BJ too excited about the prospect of facing Diaz for 2 more rounds, seeing as how BJ's stamina in rounds 4 and 5 hasn't looked too good against top-level opponents in recent times.

I wonder if BJ will come out in wrestling mode again like he did against Fitch. To me, this seems like his best strategy against Diaz. Nick has minimal take down D and Penn proved against Fitch that he can down one of the best wrestlers in the sport.

A stand up battle would be interesting because I think Penn is one of the few guys with the technical boxing skill to deal with Nicks swarming, high-output style.

I can't wait for this fight.

Same here I've very excited for the fight. Partly because I'm really not sure who wins, I go back and forth.

One thing to note is Diaz really is quite a big bigger. It's a BIG 170 pounder Vs a guy that should really be at 155.

That's the main thing that scares me about Penn's chances. He really should be at 155.

But then again, Fitch is a huge 170 pounder as well.

sure, penn wins, than fights GSP and gets beat again. A diaz win is better for the sport.

I think a Diaz win is much better for the sport. It's sets Nick up as an even more legitimately scary threat to GSP.

Imgaine if Nick runs right thru BJ. His stock will skyrocket.

Both these guys are in my top 5 favorite fighters so I can't pull for either guy. I think it will be a fun fight either way

I almost forgot that Cerrone-Siver is on the undercard. The winner of that fight is probably one of the top 3 or 4 challengers in the LW division.

I was thinking that as I typed it actually. Penn did remarkably well Vs Fitch, in fact I think he won fairly clearly.

However I think Diaz is even bigger than Fitch, I think he's better than Fitch and matches up better with BJ.

Same here. I've been a Nick Diaz fan forever, but his routine is starting to annoy me, and specifically getting kicked out of the biggest fight of his career. That was fucking retarded.

The guys are right, a Diaz win is MUCH better for the sport, but in this instance I can't help but root for BJ.

It amazes me how easily Ben Henderson finished Donald Cerrone in their 2nd fight in the WEC. Cerrone is a legit bad ass.

I was a little harsh regarding the talent of the LW's coming over from the WEC especially regarding Pettis not deserving an immediate title shot. I was right about Pettis but overall I think all 3 guys are probably top 10 in the division right now. And Cerrone, with the destructive win over Siver, is probably sniffing a title shot within 2 or 3 fights.

Anyone watch the Vera-Marshall fight? That's what I hate about MMA scoring. Marshall clearly inflicted more damage and almost ended the fight on 2 or 3 occassions. Yet somehow Vera win despite doing little more than excercising some Greco-Roman control along the cage.

    Pathetic.

I like Mitrione, however i remember how mentally weak he was in TUF. I wonder how he will handle a hard situation in the Octagon
