For some reason I've been listening to them today in the wake of England's defeat. I've always been quite ambivalent towards them but I have to say they have some absolute tunes. What's the FightBeat feeling towards them? I know TFK hates them with a passion, but what about everybody else? Is Slash a great guitarist? Is Axl Rose a great singer? What's the deal?

Guys are great. In late 80's, there was all these joke bands like Poison and Warrant. And here comes Guns n Roses playing authentic songs with real feeling.

Two good albums, handful of good singles, good live.

They made half a good record (first side of Appetite)

And yes I agree they were definitely a lot better than their contemporaries who were fucking shite

I would say the 'good' songs on Appetite are stone cold classics. I do agree though that the rest of the album is pretty meh. Haven't really liked a whole lot outside of Appetite either.

the Illusions have a few good songs on them

i hate when bands tour without putting out albums , pretty disgraceful.....has anyone ever gotten so much mileage out of a couple albums as Axl has?

Lol “in the wake of Englands defeat”. This has been some seriously traumatizing, mind bending shit for you Brits. Even makes you try something new, which is no small feat for these island folk.

GnR is really good. Slash is OK skill but great creativity. I like Appetite and both Illusions albums, since I was 7 yrs old when Appetite came out. Even at that young age I could recognize real music in amongst the horseshit of that time. About 50% of songs on these are really good.
