Someone sent Guzman a copy of earl-katsidis :crafty: Seriously though, any bets that this will not be re-scheduled?
apparently it was pretty tough getting the fight on in the first place. I dunno, guess a lot depends on where Guzman decides he wants to fight...i think super-featherweight is where he belongs, i dont think the step up to lightweight was anything more than a bid to capture another title in another weight class. I was really looking forward to the fight, although i saw Guzman as a pretty strong favourite despite Katsidis' destruction of Earl. Guzman can fight on the front or back foot and as strong as Katsidis is, he's not awfully hard to hit and perhaps too 1 dimensional but i maybe being a tad unfair judging him solely on that fight, but that's the impression i got at least.
I saw Katsidis taking Guzman out of his comfort zone, I thought he would be bigger and stronger-and coupled with his relentless aggression and good stamina, it would force Guzman to fight every second of each round, something which he may not be happy to do... On the maxboxing board, apparently there are some rumours that he may have been having weight problems rather than an injury..he looked pretty chubby in recent pics...
Guzman is just not dedicated to making weight anymore. Fighting at 135? This guy's career is going to be over before it really starts because of his eating habits. He's the boxing version of Gabe Ruedigar.
From what I've seen of Katsidi, he ain't much. If Guzman is half of what he's said to be, he shouldn't have to many trouble with him. His "war" with Earl was really just a one sided beating until Earl touched him on jaw ( wich looked suspect ) with a weak right hand ( sure, it was cool that it was seconds after his corner had thow in the towel ) and floored him, but Katsidi wasn't in any real serious trouble and seconds later, he continued the beating, nowhere near Cotto-Torres
Perhaps he had come a long way since then, but I've seen Graham Earl once on Showtime fight skool and I thought then he was not a very good fighter, losing to Katsidis doesn't surprise me
Guzman must really be having weight problems. No reason to go to 135 when there are bigger fights at 130 waiting. opcorn:
The title of this thread should be changed to "Guzman vs Katsidis is Off! Guzman is fat!" Everyone knows it's true.
He's a guy with a weight problem mate. He's had fights canceled for it in the past as well. So I guess the question is, do YOU know who Guzman is?
And whats wrong with what he said? Like I just told you, he has a weight problem. He's like Hatton in between fights. Only Ricky gets down to weight in time...Joan doesn't.
Well I know who Guzman is and he's a guy who has hand issues in the past as well. Don't tell me the guy can;t make 135 when he made 130 in his last fight.
Well I KNOW who Guzman is and he's a guy who has not made weight for fights before. He openly admitted in an interview that he lets his weight go to 170-175 in between fights (about 40 pounds north of his ideal fighting weight). He has weight problems similar to Ricky Hatton or Erik Morales. The guy likes to eat. He moved up to 130 because he couldn't keep his weight down long enough to pick off Scott Harrison. Sure Harrison pulled out first with a tooth ache (another notorious fat ass, at least his excuse is his alcoholism) but Joan Guzman pulled out the second time for this fight because of "unspecified problems" (aka can't keep my weight down, better move up to 130). When Guzman pulled out he claimed he was training for 6 hard months to fight Harrison, yet a few weeks later when he fought Javier Jauregui he couldn't even make 130 (when he was supposed to be fighting at 126 that same month against Harrison). It doesn't surprise me on the dawn of his debut into a new weight class he's having "hand problems." Was he having hand problems when he failed to make weight against Armando Guerrero too? :: Mark my words, by this year Joan Guzman will make his debut into the Junior Welterweight division because he can't stop stuffing his mouth. It's a shame too because he could be a much more dominant fighter at 126-130 if he could only keep his diet and training in check. He won't carry a punch to 135-140 and I see him getting blasted out at those weights.
I like Guzman a lot, but I really believe the rumors about him not being able to get down to 135 are true. I made a post on maxboxing a few weeks about how bloated he was at the presser announcing the fight.
You can speculate all you want to but Guzman made weight for his title fights at 130. Are you saying he hasn't had injuries in the past? If so you have no clue what you are talking about. Oh and BTW, Harrison pulled out of the Guzman fight like 3 times before Guzman moved on because he was sick of being ducked.
Damn i take that back. I never realised he gets so fat in between fights. He is always ripped like crazy by fight time.
It's too bad. Katsidis-Earl was a fun one to watch. Both guys did their best to batter the other guy's head clean off. ::
