Manchester's former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton has confirmed he will return to the ring in 2010.

"I'm going to have one more fight, maybe two - it depends on the first fight," said Hatton.

"No opponent has been confirmed... there's been no date confirmed. But... I am going to have one more fight.
    "

He should fight Amir Khan. The PPV numbers that Khan is able to deliver will be through the roof.

I think he should probably retire like Jermain Taylor. In fact he has taken far more punishment than JT in his career and he's a borderline alchoholic. If he fights Marquez, T.Bradley or any other top 140 lbs he's just going to get his ass stretched again.

Why would he retire? He lost to the two best fighters of his generation. Didn't take a sustained beating in either. Is only, what? 31. I'd love to see him knock out Khan that'd be great fun. I think he beats Marquez comfortably at 140lb.

I'd love to see it too, but the sad fact of the matter is that Khan beats Ricky easily at this point- something I would never have thought I'd say three or four years ago because the best version of Ricky is a level or so above anything Amir has done so far.

But that Ricky is gone, long gone. His decline has been masked well by the fact that his declined level is higher than many of the guys he has fought and beaten (Paulie, Urango, Lazcarno et al) but it is obvious to me at least that his lifestyle has caught up with him. Barristan is right- Ricky is a borderline alcoholic and no man can keep going up to 14 stones between fights like he does and expect to suffer no ill effects.

Hatton is only 31, but in boxing terms, he is a very old 31. His footspeed has all but gone, his jab has vanished into thin air, he now blocks punches with his face and his punch resistance long since left town. Compare the Ricky who walked through Tszyu's straight right hand to the Hatton who almost fell over when Lazcarno hit him. The difference is marked. And his two loses were brutal KTFO's which have to take a psychological chunk from a fighter who went undefeated for a long, long time.

I'm a self confessed Hatton fan, but I don't want to see him fight again. He has no reason to. He's rich, has his health (sort of), is immensely popular in the UK and the US and has a very good boxing legacy (undefeated in 40-odd fights, legitimate two weight champ, lost to only the best 2 fighters of the era etc).

    He should retire.

I think it's a matter of PRIDE than nothing else. He doesn't want to remembered for how the public last saw him. In the KO shot of the decade.

If it is against someone he could be competitive and most assuredly will win, then yes. But against any power puncher, then no, he should retire.

And his only two losses came against PED users. I don't think anyone has accused Hatton of juicing. Maybe he should fight Cotto?

In Terms of NAME Guys, that's about the ONLY For Sure Winnable Fight Hatton has Left...He Could POSSIBLY Beat Khan...He'd Beat Malignaggi Again, but there'd B ZERO Interest in that RE...JM Marquez DISSECTS Hatton & Stops him by the 6th or 7th...

Hatton Should Fight Diaz, then a British Bum in a "Farewell" Fight, then RETIRE to the Pubs...

Ricky wouldn't beat Khan. Not now. Khan's handspeed would have Hatton on queer street inside four rounds. That's how much has has declined.

There is no need for him to fight again. None. Even if he were to beat Diaz (and I agree that Diaz is so pillow fisted that he might just beat him) that wouldn't change the fact that Manny has him asleep in centre ring inside five minutes.

If Ricky thinks that it would change this fact, he is worng, and those closest to him should point that out to him in no uncertain terms.

If feather fist Diaz could give JMM some trouble, Hatton certainly can as well. Hatton is a bigger stronger harder punching version of Diaz.

I would seriously favor Hatton in this fight. He's not THAT shot and JMM hasn't proven he can hang with the best at any weight above 135.

I agree. People keep forgetting - JMM is completely unproven above 135, and looked to be vulnerable even at 135. Why does everyone think PBF agreed to fight him?

Hatton would be too strong IMO for JMM.

I'd lean JMM, but I do like the Cotto possibility. It would get both of them motivated.

@ this Stage of the Game, Diaz TAKES a Better Shot than Hatton N REED's Opinion...& Even Though he's Certainly on the SUBPAR Side Defensively, REED Would Rate Diaz BETTER than Hatton in that Regard...Diaz is RARELY as Wiiiiiiiide Open for Counters as Hatton is...

JMM will BUST Hatton Up, Hatton will B AVAILABLE For Counters All Night & They'll Eventually Take a Toll, Leading to the 3rd Stoppage Loss of Hatton's Career...

I don't know but I think it's pretty foolish of everyone to act like he's shot because he got stopped by Pacquiao and PBF.

And PBF he was competitive with until he got tired.

There's no reason to think he would not have lost those fights in the same manner had they occurred 5 years ago.

I love it how fans moan when a fighter won't face this opponent or that one, but when he does, and he loses, in a manner many predicted he would, suddenly he's finished and not the fighter he used to be.

He's got two losses on his record !!! Against the very best fighters in the sport (well, in PBF's case, it's debatable how good he is).

I just don't get why people are so quick to declare a fighter "shot," just because he loses a fight or two.

And Hatton KO'd the guy who gave Floyd the toughest fight of his career in 4 rounds?

What do either of these things mean? Nothing.

Last time I checked Floyd defeated both Hatton and the guy Hatton KO'd in 4 rounds.
Please try not to make a self-defeating argument next time you post.
    Thank you.
