Big news. Shitty for boxing. HBO, boxing's top network, makes unexpected decision to part with Golden Boy Promotions http://sports.yahoo.com/news/boxing...tinuning-migration-to-showtime-165423186.html
hbo is like a scorned bitch. really fucking up here, now bob arum can feed them shit and they have no recourse but to accept it
Whoa. Out of the blue this. Very shocking. Channel 5 over here in the UK have decided to not show boxing on their channel.
Richard Shaeffer probably pissed somebody off at HBO. "Golden Boy" really became pervasive and I think they're dirtier then Arum and King combined, ever were. They're like hedge fund mangers to King and Arum's petty thievery. Hershmann knows what he's doing. He ran a tight ship at Showtime before he came to HBO. Probably wants "Golden Boy" to feel what it's like to collect "paydays" from Showtime, instead of HBO for awhile, until they come crawling back for another deal.
Probably...hopefully...Top Rank/Don King Promotions to me always seem to have one evil/crocked head...G has a few of them...
HBO would be better off not attached to any specific promoter. They should just accept only the best offers money-wise and quality-wise.
Golden Shower must have been up to some arrogant shit and have now been told to sit in the corner with fishnets on their head.
Yup. Probably told HBO they want drug testing done for all their fights, but they get to look at and edit the results first, and will have 1st Party promotional signing rights for all opponents that "fail", said drug test, they don't already have under their umbrella.
i dont see how this benefits HBO. once pacquiao retires they have no bigtime money makers on the horizon. ward is hard to beat but is hardly an attraction. donaire may lose in a few weeks. top rank has some nice prospects but they are years away from being money makers
Yep, They're MAD @ Al Haymon & How Haymon INFLUENCED Floyd to Go to Showtime...Golden Boy's Getting Caught in the Crossfire Here... REED:bs:
This is what I was thinking. I don't think it's right for fighters or promoters to have contracts with networks. The networks should be looking around shopping for the best fights regardless of who promotes the fighters.
Here's the Rub... Golden Boy & Top Rank Possess the VAST MAJORITY of the Best Fighters...The Moment a Young, Hungry Ammy Lion Shows a Desire to Fight PRO, he's Woo'ed by Golden Boy & Top Rank, & By the Time he's Ready to Actually GO PRO, Those are the Guys Making THE BEST Offers... HIGHEST Bidder Almost Always Wins, Especially When You're Negotiating w/Entities that have NEVER SEEN the Levels of Dollars Being Discussed... TALENTED Guys Slip Through the Cracks, but it's RARE they Get SEEN.... Bringing it Back to the Topic @ Hand, HBO is Now WILLFULLY Shutting Themselves OFF from, Roughly, 50% of the YOUNG, Available Boxing Talent, by Shunning Golden Boy.... REED:hammert:
don't people realize gbp already moved to showtime? this was like a preemptive break up on hbo's part.
We always need Jake, but this is where his take on things is most required. Does Jake have a bat symbol we can shine?
I don't believe that at all. Golden boy gonna go where the most $$$ is offered. IMO, that's Hershmann attempt at getting back at G for Floyd leaving them for Showtime. Instead of pulling there muscles to make the fights people want happens, HBO just made the sport even more fragmented than it already is.
Yes. Hershman's attempt to get back at G. But not because of a personal beef, but because HBO wants to maintain its position of power. I don't know the details, but I do know that G hasn't exactly set the world on fire with their offerings. Broner/Reese? Please. It's an interesting debate. In HBO and G, you have two parties that want to take credit for the fame and success of their fighters. Now that G is gone from HBO, we'll see if G deserves to have the leverage they're vying for. My guess is HBO started see their executive power whittled away by G who was not only dictating to them, but also enjoying dates on both HBO and Showtime to fortify their bargaining power. HBO didn't like the way this was playing out and didn't see a good future in it. And this couldn't have been what G planned or expected. No longer working with HBO they will have significantly fewer dates to showcase their fighters. This means fewer chances to promote. It could mean more expensive cards for them. On the other hand, this could be good for boxing. With TR securely at HBO and G at Showtime, the promoters may feel more secure about putting their top fighters in against each other. Also, it's about more than simply who will give G the most money. Evidently, G had certain terms they wanted or refused that mattered as well.
