    Stylistic Similarity Thread...

1 of the QUICKER Ways a Boxing Fan Can (Unintentionally) Hurl Himself Into the Oncoming Traffic of NEGATIVE RESPONSES, is via Stylistic Comparison, 1 Fighter to Another...A Messageboard Avalanche, a Neverending Storm of Typewritten Criticism Typically Ensues...Posters Standing in Line to Question Your Fight Watching Credentials...

We've All Done it and All Been Ridiculed for It, Whether On-Line, Phone or Face to Face...

Who Could EVER Forget Max Kellerman's Characterization of Zab Judah as "Pernell Whittaker w/Power"?...

Well, REED's Standing on the Proverbial Diving Board and About to Jump Off...And 1nce he Does, REED has No Recourse BUT to Get Wet...

Jarrett Hurd Fights a Bit Like a Jr. Middleweight George Foreman...REED Sees Traces of Foreman in Hurd...

The SIZE, 1st of All...Hurd's a Massive Jr. Middle...No Way in Hell was he 5'11, 163, as Showtime Claims, Last Night...He was @ Least 3 1/2-4 Inches TALLER than Lara (Who was Listed at 5'9)...Bigger Head, Wider Back, Thicker Arms and Calves...It was a Foremanesque Size Advantage, just as it Was Over Austin Trout and Most of the Others...Hurd's Acutely Aware of his 1 CLEAR Advantage Over his Foes, and he Imposes his Physicality Upon Them in a Foremanesque Manner...

No, Hurd Doesn't Punch Anywhere Near as Hard as Foreman Did, and No, Hurd's Jab Isn't Near as Potent Either...But Hurd DOES Work Behind his Jab and Stalks/Closes Ground Similarly...Hurd Throws Those Clubbing Foremanesque Shots from Similar Angles Too, Once he's Up Close...

There's Even a Slight Structural Resemblance in the Head and Face Area...

Jarret Hurd Has Some George Foreman in Him...Has Even Shown a Foremanesque BEARD, to This Point...

Anybody Else BRAVE Enough to Reveal a Stylistic Similarity They've Been Harboring???...

Yeah, I see some similarities there. Vitali used his height and range well and had an awkward effectiveness, kind of like Carlos Monzon.

Vitali knew exactly how to use his height... was outstanding at controlling distance without resorting to cowardly cheating the way his horrible little brother did

Sort of but his best weapon was an overhand right, a punch Frazier didn't throw

except for the bobing and weaving, I don't see a lot of similarities between them

Ricky Hatton fought a bit like Duran.

Aggressive style, quick feet and hands, attempt to dominate the opponent inside with physical power

Lmao! Hatton fought nothing like Duran. Theres such a gap in talent and skill between the two that Hatton could never even a come close to emulating the same style.

If anything, Hatton had more in common style wise with Barry McGuigan than Duran. In fact, you can compare McGugian's win over Pedroza with Hatton's win over Tszyu. Similar circumstances. Difference being, Barry looked more impressive because he didn't have to resort to illegal tactics to beat up old man Pedroza. The same can't be said for Hatton.

If any fighter had style similarities to a young Duran with a comparable level of talent and skill, it'd be a young Wilfredo Gomez.

There's plenty of fights from a prime 122 Gomez where he looks very lightweight Duran-ish.

The bobbing and weaving the way they stand and the energetic movement of their arms and body as they move in....it’s identical except for the fact that Frazier was a left hooker primarily and as cdogg said Qawi threw an overhand right.

Winky Wright is (stylistically) a southpaw version of marlon starling ?

Lemieux is reminiscent of Nigel Benn, in style.

Although the topic is clear in that it’s specifying style, I feel the need to specify style in my posts because I know some idiot here will Eventually complain and act as though we’re comparing talent

Outside of the high guard, I don't see a lot of similarities between Winky and Starling

Especially because I love watching Starling and can't stand watching Winky

I don't see the comparison with Lemieux and Benn, other than they both punch hard. I think Wilder and Benn have much more in common.

I'm talking style of fighting specifically. Lemieux moves and throws punches in a very similar manner to Niger Benn. Wilder and Benn have very different actual styles.

I do agree with the Wilder, Benn comparison though, as I made it myself, but it's not in terms of actual style of fighting...it's in terms of the excitement, the menace, the power, the fact that both are vulnerable and the fact that neither could really box but just rely on power to bail them out of trouble.

There are definitely more overall similarities between Wilder and Benn than between Lemieux and Benn...BUT style isn't one of them.

Vitali has always reminded me of Monzon. Head up. Very deliberate. Uses his height.
