In a vacuum. I think he’s obviously favored over all of them. But whom would be his biggest threats? I think Trinidad would be the biggest danger due to his own height and two handed power. I’ve seen people mention Oscar on other forums but I don’t see what he’s going to do. He ran for his life in the face of Tito’s power. There’s no way I see him going after Tommy to fight the fight he’d need to fight to give him the best chance to win. What about the rest of the guys?
To have a chance at beating Hearns, you have to first of all have a good punch, and you have to be able to take one. You’re not outboxing that guy. And unfortunately, not many of these guys fit the bill. De La Hoya- Would be scared to death and would run double the time he did against Trinidad. Quartey- Strong but too robotic and not a great inside fighter. Mosley- Fast and aggressive until he gets hit with something that turns him into glove touch Shane. Forrest- Solid fundamentally but too basic and methodical to do anything against Tommy. Spence- Strong as hell but too open for clean right hands. Crawford- Skilled and clever, but he’d be forced way out of his comfort zone here and I think once Tommy’s right hand finds him, he goes to sleep. Ennis and Ortiz have a lot of potential but I doubt either will be good enough to beat Tommy. Brook, Porter, Thurman, and DSG get crushed something serious.
Whitaker is obviously skillful but I don’t see him being able to trouble Tommy in there with anything to hurt him. Brown can punch and he can’t be taken lightly but he’s just not good enough to get to Tommy to break him down. JLL smokes too much weed to want to do anything serious in there and he gets hit too flush too often to have a serious chance. Floyd would just never step into the ring with Tommy but he’d lose a wide UD. Pac gets stretched really seriously. It would be ugly.
You are correct that Tito is the only welter since the 90s with a somewhat chance against Tommy. But even Tito's odds are bad. Leonard and Hearns are plain and simple head and shoulders above any welterweights since them.
