My dad liked Ken Norton. Saw him fight in his prime. May Ken Norton rest peacefully.

    R.I.P. Kenny Norton.

I am really sad. I was a big Norton fan in my early years as a boxing fan in the 70s.

He was a great fighter who gave Ali all he could handle. He also made me laugh till I cried when he "fought" Gary Coleman in the movie Dirty Work.

That was just my point, he was not the champion, he was awarded a title. Same goes with several later titlists of course.

Norton was good enough of a fighter as he was, paper title doesn't change that

Ali wasn't going to fight Norton again and a novice like Leon Spinks would have been knocked out early by Norton and Spinks knew it.

Spinks had no intention of ever getting near Kenny, and of course fought a shot Ali again and the WBC had no choice but to award the rightful title to Ken who had just defeated Jimmy Young.

Ken beat Ali all three times and Ali knows it.

Ken also defeated Larry Holmes in a great fight but did not get the decision he rightfully deserved.

Ali had already agreed to fight Norton for the fourth time.

Spinks perhaps had no intention of going near Norton, but WBC decided so inside seven months when Spinks was preparing for the fight everybody wanted to see (Ali rematch).

Beating Jimmy Young hardly was a rightful way to win a title.

Norton did not beat Ali three times and he sure as hell didn't beat Holmes.

    Otherwise, a very good post

I was there at the time and Ali did not agree to fight Ken.

He beat Larry IMO with a big last round.

There's just no way he lost to Ali in the subsequent rematch and the third fight at Yankee Stadium.
