IMO...the heavyweight division is on fire. In retrospect, Tyson fury beating Wlad is the best thing that could have happened to the division.

Now the young guns are in charge: the young undefeated crop.

Leaving Wlad out of the equation....the fighters to focus on are:

    Tyson Fury
    Deontay Wilder
    Anthony Joshua
    Joseph Parker
    David Haye
    Luis Ortiz

All undefeated except David Haye and all punchers.

This is how it should shakedown.

Deontay Wilder vs Anthony Joshua - Joshua by KO in an EXPLOSIVE war and picks up a belt
Tyson Fury vs Luis Ortiz - Ortiz by late KO, gets the lineal/consensus title
David Haye vs Jospeh Parker - Parker by decision, possible late KO

There's talk of Parker fighting Joshua...I DO NOT want that to happen, yet. IMO that's a potential big money fight down the road and would be a waste to pit them against one another right now. Besides I think each deserves a shot at the title and wouldn't want to see either be eliminated just yet.

Then Ortiz vs Joshua for unification and then winner fight Parker.

    Man...what a mouth watering concept.

    Boxing's premier division is BACK!

Joshua, Parker and Ortiz look potentially as good as the Klit brothers IMO.

I think it's interesting again. Maybe not a golden age. But nevertheless, some good talent exists in division again.

I think Joshua will emerge as the ruler of the division, but there are still fights to be made and we all have to see how everyone develops as a fighter.

It's looking brighter than it has in a long time but I wouldn't go that far. It's not just about competition, the heavyweight division more than any needs a truly dominant figure. One has to first emerge.

And before somebody tries to claim Wlad was that person and the heavyweight division still sucked it's not the same for several reasons. First he had some embarrassing knockout losses so never developed any kind of aura of invincibility. His winning streak was impressive if you only look at the numbers. In the ring he rarely looked like the beast somebody with his combination of abilities and size should have been. Throughout it there was also Vitali to share the belts and top spot. Wladimir was only the consensus number one heavyweight once his brother retired.

It's definitely interesting again but people are going to be very cynical about the new breed because the division has been in such a state for so long

Exactly. It's maddening to see some people claim that Wad (and to a lesser extent Vitaly) dominated for x amount of years, while, as you said, before Vitaly retirement, they were no clear cut #1 heavyweight. Klitshko fans like to amalgate the achievement of both brothers, to hide the fact that individually both of their resume have some glaring flaws.

Joshua has already turned down fights with Haye (stating he's not ready) and Parker. Joshua is in talks with Martin but Barry Hearn is already talking their way out of that one with the same excuse he used against Khan with Brook (they want 80/20.)

I am starting to think that Barry Hearn is completely full of shit. Look at Brook's resume. 33 fights, ONE name (Porter.) Since he won the title he has defended against two fucking jokes for opponents. Then all of the sudden the title defense against the Argie gets postponed then swept under the rug and now they're fighting Bizzier.

Barry Hearn has always been a cunt that over protects his fighters. Eubank only ever fought domestic opposition

Division is shaping up nicely - will be interesting to see how it all shakes down. It's also good to see fighters who keep in shape rather than sport moobs and a gunt.

I would add Lucas Browne to the mix http://boxrec.com/boxer/489046 - depending on whether he beats Chagaev, which is debatable. Browne is undefeated, a big guy and has a punch, but he's very unskilled, very raw, and old. If he gets through Chagaev, he'll be interesting at least.

"Pretty good" is obviously subjective but he's not a contender. He's currently the #1 heavyweight in the world. That doesn't say much for the state of the heavyweight division even if you feel he's underrated.

And who did he beat again to get that designation? That's right, the legendary Wladmir Klitschko. A professional fighter who is more scared of getting hit than somebody with a deadly allergy to bee stings sitting next to a hive.

To be honest, bar the 70's (Frazier, Ali, FOreman, Norton) and the 90's (Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, Ruddock), the HW division was always pretty shitty. It was especially atrocious in the last 10 years, but now, it seems to be getting better.

I'd pick Fury against a few ATG HW. I don't think people realise how hard it is too beat such a big guy, who moves as well as he does and his very fluid with his punches.

Fury would whoop Marciano. He'd whoped PAtterson too. WIth his size and strenght, he has a hell of a shot versus frazier, even if FRazier is a way better fighter than him. If he fights the right fight, he has a chance to outbox Liston. Sure he has no chance versus the truly elite ones (Lewis, Ali, Tyson, Holmes, Homes, Louis), but these guys are few and far between in the HW history.
