Larry Donald to return By Brendan George Heavyweight Larry “The Legend†Donald (42-5, 24 KOs) returns to the ring February 9 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Centre in Covington, KY, against Jason Gavern (21-13, 14 KOs). Donald last fought in June 2007 against current WBA Champion Alexander Povetkin losing a decision. When asked why he was making a comeback, Larry stated the following: “I’m in great condition. I never lost it and I’m giving all these heavyweights hell in sparring. I never lost the passion for competition.†Donald had a stellar amateur career including two time Golden Gloves Super Heavyweight Champion, United States National Amateur Champion and he represented the USA at the summer Olympics in Barcelona. His professional career peaked with impressive wins against former world champions Evander Holyfield and Tim Witherspoon. The event is co promoted by Donald’s trainer Dione Walker of Dione Legend Promotions and Next Level Boxing. Stewart had the following to say: “This event is going to be very special. It is the first time Larry has fought as a professional in front of his home town fans. We expect a good turnout and we have a packed international fight card.†When Larry Donald was asked what this event means to him he replied: “This is one of the most important fights of my career because it’s the first time I have ever fought at home in front of my family, friends and home town fans. When I walk out under the bright lights that’s when I’m at my best.†Donald claims his comeback has been long overdue: †I feel great and have been training for over 2 years conditioning my body. I’m ready to do something special.†Donald continued: “I’m coming back for the right reasons, it’s not for a payday but I want to be the people’s champion and do it for those less fortunate.†The 45-year-old Donald claims to have a new lease on life and feels fresh and wants another shot at the big time: “I would love to get another big eliminator fight and a chance to prove myself in a world title shot.†In what looks to be an interesting night of boxing with 10 professional fights, the main support bout will feature a local heavyweight grudge match between Zakeem “Showtime†Graham (10-2, 8 KOs) and David Long (11-2, 7 KOs). Also featuring on the show is undefeated sensation Mel “Black Diamond†Crossty (6-0, 1 KO) against Tyrone “Fist of Fury†Harris 24-9, 16 KOs).
I see him beating the Klitschkos in late 2013 possibly early 2014. Larry Donald is no joke. He's got a great chin and great skills. Hell his entire boxing arsenal is exactly as Muhammad Ali's. Jab and right cross. I see great things for him in the year 2013. First the Klitschkos then the long awaited Povetkin rematch the world has been waiting for.
You know the division is shit when guys like Donald, at age 45, figure he can come back and make a few bucks. Just look at the most recently televised heavyweight fight on HBO: Seth Mitchell vs. Jonathan Banks. And guess what the next one is? You guessed it: Mitchell vs. Banks II.
Besides Donald and Williams, Oquendo is also getting back in the ring. The division must have hit a record low for guys like this to think they have unfinished business.
jeremy williams is a legendary financial advisor. nothing beats when he was telling people they should invest their money in cocaine.
If Larry Donald Gets w/Kevin Rooney & Rediscovers his Head Movement, This Could WORK!!!.... :Thumb: REED
great plan.. if he could get Rooney to come back and train him.. we'd see serious head movement and speed and combo punching
