Toney actually does have a chance here, especially if he trains some. Tua is much better than old Holyfield or Peter, but with his lack of reach Toney will slip most of his punches and counter the shit out of him. Tua did throw bombs, but his effectiveness gets overrated (he never buckled Byrd and it took him several rounds do chop down Izon and Maskaev) and we never saw Toney beaten down. I'd lean towards Tua, but it is a close one
Skill wise, Toney should be able to win this for days but it needs to be said that he was never in at heavyweight with a guy who can hit like this... I mean, I think he can win because in so many ways a guy like Tua is his bread and butter... but, the difference between Tua punching you, whether he's landing cleanly or not and someone like Ruiz or old, washed up Holyfield doing it is fucking night and day... Would have to see how Toney's body holds up when he feels that power

In fairness to Tua, he was a bit past prime (whatever that means in his case) and Byrd was a guy who used his feet a lot... Toney's not that kind of defender, he's in front of you, but he takes your shots on his arms and his shoulders so he can counterpunch... I don't know if it's a great idea for a 5'10 fat former middleweight to take Tua shots to the arms and shoulders round after round
few things - Toney is stationary, like cdogg pointed out. - we're talking "prime" Tua, prime Tua was not fat - Toney would school Tua if they were the same size, but Tua hit like a truck at his peak and could throw those punches for 12 rounds. Tua wouldn't have to land cleanly to hurt Toney. Blocked or partially slipped punches would take a toll on him (as cdogg pointed out, again)
Toney's one of my all time favorites, and P4P he's several light years better than Tua, but if we're talking about a prime Tua here (96-97), then JT gets blasted. He's too stationary, his punches would have ZERO effect on Tua, and despite his great chin, I just don't envision him handling Tua's power. JT outboxes him for a few rounds, then gets caught, hurt, and finished off.

Toney is completely unintelligible now. The only thing he could give a good breakdown on is maybe the contents of a double whopper with cheese.
