    According to Kevin Iole.

"Ticket sales at Planet Hollywood are abysmal for his bout on Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus with light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins, a rare match between a pair of future Hall of Famers.

On Wednesday morning, one could purchase eight prime seats, in Row J in the ritzy $1,500 section, simply by clicking a few buttons on the Planet Hollywood website.

When guys such as Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight, tickets aren’t available in Row J 10 minutes after they go on sale. For Calzaghe, months after the fight was announced and only a little more than 72 hours before a fight that matches perhaps the best super middleweight ever against the reigning light heavyweight king, great seats, as the saying goes, were still available.

It should be a match of epic proportions, but instead it’s dying an agonizingly slow and painful death. Promoters already returned $2 million of the $11 million site fee that Planet Hollywood owner Robert Earl had paid. Earl’s looking at a loss of an easy $5 million, perhaps more."

    Probably.

Warren says they've bought 9,000 tickets.

So the question is, how many Americans will turn out?

The crowd may be end up being similar to the at Hatton-Castillo.

Yeah, but I think these tickets were priced even higher than PBF/Hatton:eeeek:

They are on par with DLH/PBF!

It's crazy. Hops can't sell tickets so they bump up the prices.

No idea if it was GLP or Planet Hollywood who sets the prices but they screwed up bad witht the prices.

Planet Hollywood's pretty new to the whole boxing thing.

Supposedly they wanted to make a big entrance this year into the boxing scene.

they thought it would be just like Hatton-Mayweather......

....firstly, Calzaghe is not as popular as Hatton. Calzaghe is big, but his appeal isn't as broad as Hatton's.

.....Hopkins isn't the draw that p4p #1 'i just beat DLH and danced on tele' Mayweather is

.....24/7 was massive in hyping up Mayweather-Hatton (although tickets had sold out way before it had aired)

.....Hatton ended up on his arse.....the casual + cynical fan may see that happen and question if it is worth going all that way for that to possibly happen to Joe

    .....it is on normal HBO

......i haven't heard anything about the undercard....oh wait, what's that? Audley Harrison is on it?!?....no fucking wonder it hasn't sold out!

I know I would never pay to see a Bernard Hopkins fight in person.

11 million site fee???? even 9 mill for this boring, crap fight is ridiculous. robert earl is a fool. planet hollywood is a joke. this is the same location that was basically shut down one night during all star weekend because they couldn't control their casino.

I have the same feeling which is sad.

Bernard is a master of the game but i never really look forward to watching him fight.

I feel almost guilty about it as a boxing fan.

I can appreciate his mastery, but can't get excited about it.

hopkins was masterful at one point in time. the first fight with echols was some textbook boxing. at this point he is only masterful at knowing his limitations, how to bend the rules, and how to win fights by any means necessary regardless of how the viewing public is affected.

Oh please Neil. He wins fights by fighting at a distance most guys are afraid and too unskilled to fight at anymore. Philly fighting is in the trenches, its not a pursuite for little girley men like from Wales.

Can you honestly tell me with a straight E-face that Evander Holly's dirty shit is not twice as bad as Hopkins occasionally getting a little rough inside? Hopkins is a master at Philly style and people call it dirty because it is rough.

What is the price range of the tickets, I would go to this fight for sure if I lived in America.

 So why the fuck did this fight have to be in America again?.. Joe could have drawn 70,000 at home, oh well,...guess Hopkins wasn't racist enough to sell the tickets

That really pisses me off, Joe is the big draw for this fight so Hopkins should have been the one to travel, we always hear stupid comments about Euro fighters not traveling, Calzaghe should have insisted the fight take place in the Mellemium.
But I think we all know B-Hop would not have travelled...... and Joe would have been painted as the guy scared of fighting outside his own back yard.

Even Hopkins fans on this site say they wouldnt pay to watch him....its fucking ridiculous.

 Very good, I agree, it's both sad and hilarious, this US-elitist patriotic shit and it's sheepish echo has lead to this utter catastrophe.

I know Joe would easily have sold out the millemium stadium a few times over..

I read the other day that B-Hop said he fought all over the world, as far as I know he fought only a few once outside his own country and Joe is a "home fighter"

This shite really makes me laugh.

Joe fights bums in his coccoon.

Hop fights the best in the big stages in Vegas etc.

Hmmm, you're right, no difference there.

Get of your ass you laughing buffoon...

No body is trying to say that Joes CV is better than B-hop’s but that doesnt mean that Hopkins has this amazing CV where he beat all these guys in their primes and in the correct weight.

Bernard fought at home so did Joe, but the dumb yank will accuse Joe of being scared to travel, even you must see the irony there.

Facts are Joe could sell out the mellemium many times over and B-Hop is struggling to sell the tickets.
Hell even B-Hop fans on here say they wont pay to watch him..

B-hop never gave the LAME ass excuses joe gave.

"I can't fight roy jones, im scared to fly".

    I mean, COME ON.

Once again you want to talk about facts, and the facts as you call them are that Joe stayed in the back arse of nowhere in his cocoon while hopkins was out there beating all comers. Meanwhile calzaghe was just calling them out from his stationary cocoon.

Well he seemed OK flying to denmark to fight another bum will "kid fire" mcintyre.

Amazing that he is now flying around when Hopkins if 43 and Roy is way past it.

And regarding the first Hop Calzaghe fight, do you expect me to criticise Hopkins for not fighting Calzaghe when he has plenty of better names on his record and Calzaghe has not got one name as good as hopkins? do you really think that was all hopkins?

    oh dear

    DIFFERENCES.

    I) Hopkins hasn't come out with a tirade of excuses, all of which are complete SHIT.
    ...a) Get a belt
...b) Witter called me out and was disrespectful
...c) its in the contract for the summer (2005)
...d) its not appealing to the public
...e) hbo don't want the fight
...f) witter said "one day" to me
...g) witter called me out when i won the british title, showing no respect.

II) It's clear Hatton is the only one stopping the fight from happening.

III) They are 1 and 2 in the division and from the same country for fuck sakes.

I would go on but I will spare the board another tirade.

Floyd is already getting criticised for not fighting cotto. Imagine he didn't fight cotto for the next 8 years? hatton is currently avoiding his number one challenger too.

It really is a shame that this fight didn't just take place in Wales. And dumb, too.

Every man jack knows that Nard wasn't a big enough seller on his own to make the numbers in this one, and Stateside, Calzaghe simply isn't a name.

The fight would have sold 80,000 in the Millenium Stadium, Wales. No doubt at all.
