cool. even if this fight lands in vegas or elsewhere stateside, hopkins still will have a difficult time getting a decision. doesn't seem like he's had too much luck w/ the judges in close fights.

WTF? Last I heard the WBC was not going to order a rematch and Pascal was to face Dawson again because of the rematch clause.

If WBC goes through with it, Pascal will probably dump the belt and instead face Dawson in a bigger-money rematch. Perhaps after that someone cares enough to fight for the WBC title or maybe they create a new one for Pascal and Dawson

The rematch clause is valid only if a network offers a payday that matches or exceeds the first fight. GYM was very specific about that clause being that they didn't want to in Pascal to an exclusive rematch.

Here's the funny thing: HBO has no interest in a Pascal-Hopkins rematch. Showtime has no interest in a Pascal-Dawson rematch.

Showtime has expressed interest in a Pascal-Hopkins rematch, while Shaw claims he's working on a deal w/ HBO for a Pascal-Dawson rematch.

Where GYM/Pascal is screwed is that HBO doesn't have to outbid Showtime on this one. I think the magic number is $2 million - although for that amount of money, Dawson will undoubtedly have to go back to Canada.

HBO actually has the opportunity to show restraint here - there's virtually no competition, nor even a demand for the rematch. They'd be better served to let Showtime (over)spend on Pascal-Hopkins II, while pushing for a fight between Dawson and Tavoris Cloud, or even someone like Zsolt Erdei now that he's fighting stateside (and seemingly has a following).

    Belts don't matter, right?

Let's do Hopkins vs Dawson first.

well it looks like wbc is mandating the rematch, but pascal can opt to vacate his wbc belt and fight dawson instead to fulfill his contractual obligation

not sure what pascal's gonna do since he'd most likely get sued by dawson if he goes on w/ the hopkins rematch.

The WBC is great for all the new mining companies that were started up to make the new belts- WBC Silver, WBC Diamond, WBC Titanium, WBC Lithium, WBC Aluminium, etc.

Funny, I wasn't really excited about Hopkins-Pascal I but now I really don't care about any other LHW fight OTHER than Hop-Pas II.

Well, Chris Henry versus Boss or Neil still has appeal but......

In order for Dawson to sue, HBO would have to make an offer on the fight. If they decide to pass, then Dawson and Shaw are screwed because Showtime is already on record stating they'd rather go w/ Pascal-Hopkins II.

almost positive i already said all of this :dunno:

Don't jump the gun Z! The WBC ordered it but Shaw has rematch contract with Pascal. It's Jeans play. He may elect to be strip by WBC and defend IBO/Dawson.:Ramonza:Shake and Bake Ricky Bobby!:dunno:

I'd really have preferred if Dawson had gotten a chance to get his career back on track. Hopkins should have just retired on a high. :crying:
