fightnews.com HBOPPV today reported 305,000 PPV buys and $15.3 million of PPV revenue for the July 21 Bernard Hopkins-Winky Wright light heavyweight fight. That figure represents the second-highest total this year for a PPV fight, behind only De La Hoya-Mayweather. "We are pleased with the PPV performance of Hopkins-Wright," said Mark Taffet of HBOPPV. "It performed well within the range of expectations. Most importantly, following Barrera-Marquez, De La Hoya-Mayweather and Cotto-Judah, the Hopkins-Wright fight continues the string of high profile boxing events which have resulted in HBOPPV being on a record-setting pace for 2007 amidst what has been a great resurgence for the sport of boxing as evidenced by the fights which have taken place or are scheduled to take place both live on HBO and on HBOPPV this year."
OVER 300,000 Buys for a Fight that "Everybody" KNEW was Gonna B BORING???:dunno: .... Yep,Boxing's "Dying" Alright... REED
305,000 is pretty pathetic for a fight between two P4P fighters who are middleweight/lightheavyweights. There are featherweight PPVs that dwarfed this fight in terms of sales. ::
The top selling PPVs with Pac/Morales/MAB in recent years around 126-130 did around 325-350k. More than the Hopkins-Wright stinkfest, but I wouldn't call it "dwarfing" it.
Pacquiao-Morales II did 50,000 more buys than TWO MIDDLEWEIGHT/LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT P4P fighters. It's almost unheard of seeing featherweights outshine middleweights especially of the caliber of Hopkins and Wright. People spoke with their wallets on this one, Hopkins is a boring, cheating faggot.
Pacquiao-Morales II beat this one by 50,000 buys. That's almost a $3 million difference in revenue. How does this not compute with you? A FEATHERWEIGHT fight beat the shit out of a middleweight one. ::
The reason these boring ass fights are selling is because Delahoya is doing a good job of promoting these fights. It's a shame that better fights have not done as good ppv #'s like Cotto/Judah. This is a fight that a average fan or even a non boxing fan could have appreciated and maybe sparked there interest in boxing. The Floyd/DHL ppv was horrible, Wight/Hopkins horrible but they had good ppv # where better fights arent getting the attention. it's a shame and a loss to boxing in my view.
If you're talking about my haircut you're right. I just had a hair stylist meeting 2 days ago, and my hair is shining in its brand new form. $2-$3 million is the revenue difference between Pac-Morales II and Borenard's latest wrestling match. That's more than the combined purses of Barrera and Fagquez when they tangled so it's pretty significant.
Here are officially released PPV figures from 2006 for HBO PPV cards: Morales/Pacquiao III - 350,000 buys (11/2006) Morales/Pacquiao II - 355,000 buys (01/2006) Vargas/Mosley - 420,000 buys (02/2006) Mayweather/Judah - 375,000 buys (04/2006) De La Hoya/Mayorga - 925,000 buys (05/2006) Tarver/Hopkins - 330,000 buys (06/2006) Mosley/Vargas II - 350,000 buys (07/2006) Guess which card was the low number on that list, and then look which cheating faggot was involved. ::
Dude,Mexican Fights Fans R CLEARLY the Most BANKABLE Race of Fans N Boxing...The Most LOYAL,SUPPORTIVE,etc... Mexican Fans RESPECT the Shit Out of Manny Pac AND they ADORE Morales... So Quite Naturally,Pac-Morales II did More Business than Winky-Bernard... REED
Don't worry, 305,000 is definitely a failure for this fight. G spents TONS of money trying to hype this fight and it still couldn't beat featherweight PPVs. ::
That's true. The Mexican and now the Asian fans are really determining how much revenue these smaller fighters can get, which is a good thing in my opinion. But my point is that 305,000 buys for two P4P middleweight stars is pretty pathetic. In terms of business, pure numbers and revenue, Borenard is just not as bankable as people like to think.
Plus, Morales and Pacquiao are maybe the 2 most exciting fighters in boxing. Hopkins's previous 6 fights before fighting Wright were: Allen III, De La Hoya, Eastman, Taylor (2x), and Tarver. As much as I respect Hopkins as a boxer, at this point I expect his fights to be dull.
That's what I'm saying. Say you had $50, and a PPV of Hopkins - Wright II was coming up. How willing would you be to drop your 50 spot on that fight on a scale of one to ten (one being "only if someone put a gun to your head, and 10 being "I expect this to be a modren day classic!!!!)?
Yeah, but Mexicans are also the most economical when it comes to PPV's. When dealing with economies of scale (meaning fixed costs are lowered when there's higher volume)... 350,000 Mexicans purchasing an Erik Morales PPV means possibly 7 million Mexicans viewed the fight via PPV(translation: 20 cats per household). "However" 305,000 Brothers purchasing Hopkins-Wright possibly means 1,525,000brothers viewed the fight via PPV (translation: 5 cats per household). When the Nielsen ratings figures out a way to decipher how many sets of eyes per screen...you'll see a DRASTIC shift and the term "Pay Per View" will truly mean Pay Per View. :stir: **Disclaimer...this post isn't meant to offend, it's purely for comedic purposes**
REED has a Feeling that Bernard is the Kind of Fighter U Need to See N PERSON to Appreciate...T.V. Probably Doesn't Do him Justice... REED
Hey I was just trying to help you get your facts straight. I just helped you "remember" correctly. Relax my asian friend. :dunno:
Why is that gay? In the OC they don't really have "barber shops", you schedule an appointment with a hair stylist, and he lets you know when his open spots are during the week. They also give you a vitamin treatment on your hair after they wash it. It's really relaxing you should try it sometime.
Like Alabama says it´s around two million in PPV-dollars. That´s a lot of money and speaks volume of the draw Erik Morales is. :clap: :clap:
:: There was a lot of Asian money in that fight too. The 355,000 figure is also only U.S buys. If you added world wide buys (ABS-CBN), Pacquiao-Morales II probably doubles Borenard - Winky.
