And by the way what a disgraceful thing to do by Bowe, did anybody know if he was punished? Butler went to fucking jail for less than that...
They weren't Bowe's biggest shots --- you notice they were quite a bit short, by Bowe's standards. Donald took them well, though --- no doubt. I was always appalled to see a young Bowe on the rise (pre-title shot) championed by some of the networks' principal figures as some jovial giant with a heart of gold & great sense of humour. As this --- & quite a few other --- incidents expose, Bowe was a bully with a mean streak too often glossed over. Be it throwing glasses (that is a permanently life-changing injury, should it land right), fouling within the ropes or stunts like this, he was forever a cheap-shot merchant. Another thing which puzzled me about Bowe during his career was the way analysts raved about him being, "well-schooled." He threw some of the clumsiest, wildest punches ever seen in the ring. He just looked damn awful sometimes. True enough, his bodypunching & in-fighting (both in full, spectacular display on his night of nights in '92) were formidable weapons, but technically, Bowe was a long way from being proficient in my book.
I alway's wondered how Donald could take these so well. Sure they weren't Bowe best shot but it was still a neat 3-2 combo. Imo, Bowe should have been banned for a long time after this, it was even more disgracefull than the Butler incident, and worst of all, it had the possibility of giving him an unfair advantage for the fight
It was a horrible incident that increased my hatred for Bowe, but worse than the Butler incident? No way, not even close, imo. The fight should have gone on as scheduled so that Donald got his payday and then Bowe should have been charged with criminal conduct, preferably right after the decision was announced.
The first shot was a pretty good one, but Bowe's arm hits Donald's shoulder on the second one, greatly lessening the impact. TFK
Bowe always was a dick. The guy was severely overrated over his fights with the much smaller Evander. Lewis would have toyed with Riddick and stopped him brutally.... And he should have been punished for that assault against Donald.
