I think it's one of the best movies from the 80s that I've seen.

Weird but still ultra entertaining movie with do many memorable scenes and quotes.
Easily one of the best of the decade...

Its definitely one Lynch's best movies. The Elephant Man being his very best.

It's one of the better film noirs of the 80s, although not as good as Body Heat and Blood Simple.

Not much of a Lynch fan myself, but definitely one of his best.

My favorite Lynch film is actually the G-rated "The Straight Story".

Seems super boring, but every time I stumble across it, I end up watching it.

I think it gets overrated because of Dennis Hopper´s insane performance as Frank Booth.
However, its definately weathered the passage of time better than any other Oscar nominee that year and possibly better than any Hollywood movie of it´s decade

Blue Velvet came out in 86.

Same year as Platoon, which remains one of the greatest war movies ever made.

Same year as Aliens, which remains an action classic.

Same year as The Fly, which remains a sci-fi classic.

It also came out the same year as the movie you love to jock, Manhunter.... which also holds up very well today.

But yeah, Blue Velvet has certainly aged better than a piece of shit like Top Gun.

Don't be so hard on yourself. We all see you're having a hard time. But as tough as it's been to tolerate even the occasional exchange with you, we are here for you.

Great movie. Steady stream of wtf but still a followable story.
