WE all knew that Hughes was at a major advantage...yet we still gave the Gracie "name" a chance. Most knowledgable people KNEW that this was a mismatch of HUMONGOUS proportions, yet still showed interest. Same as when Ali fought Holmes, and when Louis took on Marciano. It really doesn't PROVE ..shit. And so it goes...
.... It proved what a well rounded MMA fighter does to a guy like Royce Gracie, that's what it proved. :2:
I think Gracie was more in a position of needing to prove himself, anyone who knows the sport know Matt is proven
Matt isn't proven. He looked like a child against BJ Penn. I know Dana White has done his best to make it seem like that loss never happened but facts are facts. Hughes was raped like a little whore. Dominated in every way! He sucks!!!
Neither one of them suck both of them are great fighters.Matt is a proven fighter and so is Royce Gracie, Royce said it before the fight "Anything can happen" fuck nobody I know thought 155lb BJ Penn would beat Matt so easy, I thought Matt would break him in half but it didn't happen.
Yep, Pop in your UFC 3 dvd and watch Royce actually wrestling toe to toe with a 6'2, 240Lb beast. That fire, strength, and explosiveness in Gracie has been void for so many years. He had none of that last night and I can't say I was shocked either. I know Royce is long past his best.
... Who is talking about Shamrock? I am talking about Hughes and Sakuraba. Shamrock isn't greater than either 1 of those guys.
Agreed.....Ken was the man, no doubt about it, but Saku and Matt are both legends themselves....Its no slap in the face to be number 3 behind Sak and Matt....That and I dont think the version of Ken that Royce beat was the best Ken there ever was either....
Hanzy, you're so full of shit....No wonder you're fat....BJ did put the whoopin on Matt though...GSP is gonna whoop him next time out too....
How am I full of shit when I just stated a FACT!:jester: I'm not pulling shit out of the air, I'm just stating the cold hard truth! BJ absolutely raped the man! I think Dana wants every video of that fight destroyed and make it seem like it never happened.
you can see the pride the gracies have even from the hughes fight. i don't know of any other guy who would not have tapped, royce's face didn't even change. he's a true warrior with ridiculous heart. hughes said he could hear bones cracking. and valdosta, your age is just a number talk is absolutely stupid. the guy is 39 and was at his best more than 10 years ago. i suppose age was just a number for holyfield when he fought ruiz, donald and tyson when he fought mcbum and williams.
Hughes is 175, Liddell's 205. But weight classes aside, Chuck would punch a hole through the little fucker's chest!:sportif3: You know why? Liddell has the best takedown defense and nobody at LH and under can keep him down on his back. He always gets back up on his feet. No wrestler like Hughes is gonna do shit, Hughes is too small. Liddell will keep it standing and knock the bastard into next week.
Hughes proved that Gracie is and always was just a overhyped bum who suckered the media into thinking he was great by a bunch of sham fights against TOTAL BUMS and being the "litte guy" who could overcome the obstacles kinda like Bruce Lee (Royce Gracie fans also think Bruce Lee is an all-time great fighter even though the guy never even had a single real fight.. hint: he was a professional actor not a fighter) Royce Gracie = Bruce Lee = :jester:
Bruce Lee was the one who delivered MMA to the States. Nobody had a clue. Just so happens that only now, or should I say, in the past 7-8 or so years are fighters now realizing the importance of having a complete game to succeed in MMA. The one thing Bruce emphasized in his teachings back in the 60s, and the very essence of his Jeet Kune Do. Sure, maybe Bruce wasn't a competition fighter who could go out and waste Matt Hughes and them, but you can't deny that he was unbelieveably intelligent and far ahead of his time.
