I´m impressed how UFC can sell tickets with crap like Cain vs. Fatman

..and make it sound like it´s impressive to drag that can 7 minutes. Vitali would kill that guy in 30 seconds under MMA rules. Huge credit to UFC though. What do you think is their secret to sell shit as gold?

That fight did not sell tickets, it was just a showcase fight. The Neer/Danzig fight was good.

lol, any top 20 hw boxer would kill that fat guy under 1 minute with MMA rule, he was utter crap but I got to give him credit for being tough. Cain is a good prospect, but save for Obrien, his opposition has been joke, funny how the UFC fans who kept on hating on Kimbo got no problem with all the hype Velasquez is receiving

I hope Velasquez gets KTFO. He didn't show shit tonight. I'd favor Kimbo over him right now.

The UFC is a hype job machine and it's beginning to become irritating.

I was most looking forward to the Johnson/Fiorivanti fight and it didn't disappoint.

Lauzon is becoming quite a submission artist and is pretty slick.

Velasquez would take Kimbo down and maul him like a little bitch. Velasquez has a big future ahead of him even if he was using tonight's fight as practice.

UFC is clearly an event/franchise. Obviously,if there is a good matchup, the buyrates will be higher. People tune in for the experience IMO. So I'm being objective I have an example of this for you from last night.

I went to the bar and the fight card was not even on. I waited to see if anyone would go ask the bartender to turn it on, but no one did. So I did. Then the sound was not the sound on the main speaker (college basketball was) , so again I waited and no one asked the bartender to turn the broadcast sound on. So I did. Once that happened, people started watching. I literally watched as dozens of people started to focus in on the screen once they heard Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg start hyping the card.

This was a great example of how I feel the UFC is followed by fans. In reality, only hardcore fans should have known who ANY of the fighters were on the card last night or apparently if there was a fight card at all. The bar ALWAYS shows UFC PPVs and even had the Arlovski/Fedor PPV and they did not even know that there was a fight.

What impresses you enough about him that makes you come to that conclusion? I don't see anything out of the ordinary that would make me think that he would stand out from anyone else.

The UFC is hyping alot of junk. I love hearing Rogan hyping every single fighter who enters the cage; "HE'S GOT PHENOMENAL STRIKING, UNBELIEVEABLE JIU JITSU, INCREDIBLE STAMINA!!!!!" Like he's cumming or something!

While guilty of that, Rogan is a huge reason the UFC is so popular, imo. The guy is an excellent announcer.

It was definitely an under the radar card. MMA's progression toward a boxing-like setup is well on its way. Flyweight (125 lbs) was recently added to WEC. Cards are on regularly/weekly enough that most fans don't see them all.

He's alright, but gets tiresome after a while. Like Hanzy said, everyone has PHENOMENAL stamina, NASTY muay thai, OH BIG RIGHT HAND HE'S HURT!!!....

He is also quite vulgar and unprofessional to be considered a really good commentator.

His style certainly works with the UFC, I can't think of anyone who'd make a better UFC commentator.

He's a bit loose IMO. And he tries to justify everything. Like one fight where two guys were on the ground not doing sh*t and the crowd was booing, he was tearing into the crowd and said "Well you know what, Baseball is equally boring so why don't they boo then?"
  What a clown! I mean, come on Joe! Baseball's like the national american sport and big all over and been around for over 100 years as a pro sport and you're comparing that to a f*ckin' little mma fight? Ain't the same thing! Dude needs to put his focus on the product he's commentating on rather than taking stabs at other sports. His sh*t ain't professional. He's still just a stand up comedian as opposed to an actual professional commentator. And he sucks the dick of every guy who steps into the cage. He's a sales-man. Dana White's right hand man. Trying to make us believe something that ain't really there. I don't really respect him.

There are many. And they'd come across as more professional than Rogan. Just that you're so used to Rogan that you can't fathom seeing somebody else take his spot.

No. I like Bas, but I think he's too boring as a commentator.

UFC is a bubblegum event, and Rogan suits it perfectly.

I have only got into the UFC recently, but what has wound me up more than most things about the announcing is the reluctance to criticise the judges.....i can't remember a time when i have watched and they have vigorously condemned the scoring.....there have been a few controversies but they seem to be generally apathetic about them. Am i right?

It probably comnes from up top.....White doesn't want to see the judges undermined

Velasquez is an excellent wrestler and can maul pretty decent fighters on the ground (like he did Obrien). His win over Obrien is more impressive than anything Kimbo ever did. Last night's fight was good practive for him, it's not like he has tons of fights.

Wow. I am really strange I guess. I thought the card was entertaining as hell last night. For a free card on Spike it was outstanding.

Lauzon was fun to watch. I love his grappling and the way he continually hunts submissions.

And watching Neer walk through the fire and submit Danzig was unreal.

Not to draw comparions, but I watched the tape of the Darchinyan fight from last night and was bored to tears.

I do have one question for the experts though. Why is Cain Valesquez being fed fish? Seriously, we watched Brock Lesnar debut in the UFC at HW by fighting Frank Mir. And now, the prospect that everyone can stop chattering about is spoon fed mediocre opponents in his first 3 UFC fights. 2 of his first 3 fights in the UFC are against guys making their UFC debuts.

Personally I like watching guys beat up on lesser competition, but I just don't understand the different way in which prospects are brought along.

It was a good card. I don't see anyone complaining about it. I had some observations of MMA viewers.

It is to do with promotion....Lesnar came in and was already a star....whereas with Valesquez they probably feel they have to hype him up....so they put him in against bums so that he looks like a monster

Lesnar asked to face real fighters. He came to the UFC to actually test himself. He doesn't want easy fights. That's the difference.

Cain is just fighting who the UFC wants him to fight. They are definitely taking their time with him. The guy he fought was horrible and Cain wasn't that impressive.

Everyone at AKA is saying he's a monster though. These are not fans or anyone who works for the UFC, the hype is coming from fellow fighters.
