he's not the only one who hates the 10 oz gloves! Am I the only one who thinks the gloves could have an effect on Hatton-Castillo? More on Castillo than Hatton. Ricky can just slap and grapple his way to victory, but for Castillo to win he's gonna have to put some real damage on Ricky, and I fear the stupid fucking 10 oz gloves will hinder that. Am I wrong for this thinking, or will the gloves have no effect?
It IS Kinda WUSSing Up the Fightgame,Isn't It???... Boxing is SUPPOSED to B "Dangerous" To Some Degree,or Else Most of Us Boxing Geeks on the Messageboards would GLADLY Do it... Shit,if those WEIGHTED,18 Ounce Sparring Gloves were Used N Pro Fights,REED might Consider a Career:: ... But Seriously,Having SMALLER Guys wear BIGGER Gloves is a BAD Idea...By Making the Game "Safer",U're DILUTING the Very Essence of what ATTRACTS ALL Races,Sexes & Nationalities to Boxing... DOUB's RIGHT about this 1... REED ps. He'll REALLY Appreciate a "Glove" Thread,X:: ...
No doubt, it's a terrible rule, if you wanna a safe sport, go play tennis. 10 oz gloves cheapens the sport IMO
Honestly guys, 10 ounce gloves make very little difference to both the flow of a fight and a fighters safety.
Because the perception is that it is safer, by reducing the number of impact "shock" KO's, but a small number. The problem is, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that 10 ounce gloves create a far bigger problem for a fighters saftey, as they begin to increase the number of shots a fighter takes. Either way, the change isn't really significant. It's more for show than anything else.
Although I agree when you said it doesn't make the sport safer, I remember Mosley made a pretty big deal about going from 10oz gloves to 8 when he moved from 154 back to 147. I'm sure to the fighters they would prefer a smaller lighter glove rather than a larger heavier one.
With MMA using those small gloves and KO ratio going through the clouds, it's a bad move to increase the size in boxing. I like Bob Arum boycotting Las Vegas for this same reason.
I am no pro fighter, but I have used both 10 oz and 8 oz cleto reyes in sparring, and there is not a big difference. If you can punch, a 10 oz glove is still going to do a lot of damage, and likewise if you can't punch an 8 oz glove is not going to get you KO's. It's only a 2 oz difference. I prefer the 8oz glove, as they are that little bit lighter and more comfortable. But honestly, it's not like 10oz gloves are going to ruin Castillo's chances to win, if he was destined to win with 8oz gloves. If he could hurt hatton with 8oz, he'll still be able to hurt him with 10oz gloves.
For the record I think they should use 8oz gloves, not 10oz, the more chance of KO's the better, even if it is just a small extra chance :: There is one line of thinking one could argue, that let's say amateur or sparring gloves could potentially lead to more permanent damage, as the fighter takes prolonged punishment where as he may have been taken out early with the smaller gloves.
