I would, it's a good matchup, especially if it's at 154 and not some bullshit catchweight. Shamefull the way he asked for more than 50% of the purse to fight Pac but, at least, if he fights Cotto instead, he'd have made the next best fight and imo, probably a better one

Credit? What do you mean, credit? Would I pay to see the fight? If I'm honest with myself, probably. But does he deserve extra credit for fighting someone who's not junky like Ortiz? Absolutely not. The guy's the self-proclaimed best fighter in the world. It's not some noble step on his part to fight tough competition. It should be a requirement!

At this point, PBF's, "credit," is in the negative zone. And it would take a lot more than a match-up with Cotto to pay that debt.

So no, the guy does not get, "credit" just for doing what champions do all the time which is to fight each other.

Jesus. This sport is messed up when people decide a fighter who earns millions and millions and calls himself the best is being given credit for fighting a fellow top fighter.

I know what you're saying. I meant "credit" by Floyd standards...

Well it's tricky. Someone regarding as one of, or the best fighter in the world should fight any and everyone. He shouldn't REALLY get credit for fighting Cotto, because he should be fighting Cotto.

The only thing he should get credit for would be taking a real risk, like fighting Martinez at 160, ie the sort of thing any 1 of the Fab 4 would have done without hesitation.

But by Floyd's standard yes, he should get credit, because Cotto is clearly the best opponent he would have faced at 147.

Unfortunately he's also a stylistic dream for Floyd.

    Slower, 5'7, short arms, patient.

It would be the third fight in a row Floyd fought the best available opponent other than Pacquiao.

Yep. Cotto fits the bill as a shorter than average welterweight. Thinking about it, it makes it all the more likely Cotto will be PBF's opponent.

Why doesn't he just face Mike Jones?

God the welterweight division is in horrible shape. Randall Bailey is in the top 10 for Christ's sake. You know who he beat to earn that ranking? 10-5 Yoryi Estrella. 31-3 Jackson Osei Bonsu, and 27-7 Germaine Sanders who lost his last four fights. Oh, and Bailey fought once in 2011, and twice in 2010. But he's top 10 baby. 154 isn't all that much better.

I guess it's only fair to point out that pickings are slim for PBF. Bundrage, the guy who couldn't win the contender series, is ranked #3 at 154, with Alvarez, who's toughest fight came against Cintron, is number 2!

I guess Cotto makes sense. In fact, if it's anyone but Cotto, he deserves shit. For fighting Cotto, his credit is that he doesn't get criticized for fighting a GBP staffer.

I have no idea how a fight with one of the best fighters in the world could be viewed as anything but a great match-up.

The correct answer is always "Manny", but there is nothing wrong with Cotto. I hope it happens.

I will give Mayweather credit...not as much credit had he fought Cotto back in 2007-2008-2009 when both were in their prime....

But Cotto is the best opponent that Maywether can fight...other than Martinez or Pacquiao.

I won't give Floyd credit for shit unless he fights Manny. The fight is there to be made, all he needs to do is stop being a bitch, take the 50-50 split and it's on.

    Fuck boxing.

Let me see how it looks from Floyd side....

The purse is 50/50...why should the PPV be 50/50? Mayweather has sold plently of more PPV's than Pacquiao......:egypt:

It's an obvious improvement over Ortiz. And a compelling fight.

It's not entirely obvious if 154 would benefit PBF or Cotto, but given 154 is where Cotto's been fighting most recently, it'd probably be most impressive if it were made there.

Mayweather never avoided Cotto. He and Arum wanted nothing to do with Floyd when both were at 140.

    Margarito on the other hand...

Fine, let's take a look at their last 3 fights.

Manny vs Magarito = 1.15 million buys
Manny vs Mosley = 1.3 million buys
Manny vs JMM 3 = 1.4 million buys

Floyd vs JMM = 1 million buys
Floyd vs Mosley = 1.4 million buys
Floyd vs Ortiz = 1.25 million buys.

Manny = 3.8 million total buys.
Floyd = 3.65 million total buys.

Now Floyd WAS drawing more back when Pac wasn't this big of a draw and Mayweather fought Oscar and Hatton, but it seems to me the trend is now that Manny is drawing just a bit more, at least in the past couple of years anyway. So unless you want to cling to numbers from 3 years ago, 50-50 looks mighty fair to me.

Yup. It has to be 50-50, the numbers speak for themselves.

If Floyd really is asking for more it just proves what a bitch he is, and that's basically his way out of the fight.

Still you can argue that Pac may have lost some lustre after struggling with tiny Marquez for the 3rd time...whereas Floyd looks genius as usual vs Ortiz.

As such, I suggest 70-30 for Floyd! :kidcool:

    Kidding.
