Name some bands or artists that other people seem to furiously wank themselves into a frenzy over that you just don't "get". I'll start:

    The Stones.

Just never got it, I mean they're good I guess, I like a few of their songs but as a whole they've never, ever really done it for me. I don't think there's ever been a time where I would purposely put on a song of theirs.

    The Stones? Kill yourself

There's loads of bands/singers like this for me

I feel like I "get" exactly why people love some of them but those same reasons are the exact same I reason I don't like them

Sometimes, though I'm genuinely baffled by how people perceive a thing... textbook example: The Velvet Underground I generally "get" but I just don't like them but on the album Loaded (the only one I enjoyed enough to buy over the years) there are two songs that their die-hards just LOVE ... one is "Head Held High" and the other is "Rock & Roll" ... when I first heard them I laughed and thought "ok, I think I get what Reed is doing here... this is sarcastic, a send-up of good-time rock music" because the singing is comically bad and really over the top and while Reed was candid about not having a good voice, he usually sang close to in key as best as he could or just talked if he couldn't... so I'm thinking this is supposed to be funny and I'm hip to that, I like that ... then over the years I became aware that fans and rock music critics (who fucking worship this band) don't see anything even mildly sarcastic or funny in either of those songs... they see them as cathartic, deep... I can't understand how somebody gets that from those and I can't believe that was Reed's intent. Utterly baffling to me.

Your exhibit A for attempting to justify the existence of Galaxie 500 was Thurston Moore

You used a guy you don't even like to try and big-up another band???

    What the fuck is that?

If the late, great George Szell (who is the reason you have a peerless, world-class orchestra in Cleveland of all places) had lived long enough to hear Galaxie 500, he would've said they "play like gypsy whores!" in a thick Austrian accent

I don't think there's any artist I don't 'get'...maybe the closet to that is The Band.

First three albums are fantastic, to me and I like the live one from 1972... The Basement Tapes with Dylan are loaded with tunes... beyond that, there's only a song here and there on the rest of the records... Robertson ran out of songs, Manuel wrecked his voice, they were all messed up from touring and the drugs and drink that go along with that transient existence

So much of their aesthetic has been horribly imitated over the years that it's dulled the impression of just how startlingly different that music was in 1968-1970... all these original songs that seem like organic folk songs of indeterminate origin, passed along by migrant workers or hobos and three extremely unique singers each matched to the right tunes... there's no real analogue for The Band and nothing that would've predicted their emergence... they just sort of appeared as this thing totally at odds with any of the popular trends of the time... then they just receded away from the pressure of all that early acclaim

Ironically, for a group that was 4/5 Canadian, I would concede that their aesthetic may be so staunchly American that it may feel somewhat impenetrable to someone English the way that something like Fairport Convention might be bewilderingly English to an American (it is to me!)

Everything that is considered a sacred cow I have never understood why nor care. Both the Beatles & The Rolling Stones never did a thing for me. I can pick maybe three songs in total that I liked, but still not among favorites.

Led Zepillin: can't think of anything from them. Don't even know or care if I misspelled their overated name
Janis Joplin: the best thing she did was to die young
    Jimi Hendrix: see Janis Joplin
Elvis: one or two songs that I can tolerate, but nothing that will force me to calling him 'king'...
The Grateful Dead: besides the brainwashed cultists that followed them everywhere I don't know anyone that liked their music

This post alone illustrates why Panchyprsss is a shit poster, but that aside, while we're here:
    a) why he needs putting in jail/executing for paedophilia crimes
    b) his entire family exterminating (just for associating themselves with him)
    c) the worthless, shit island that is Puerto Rico, annhiliating off the face of the planet

It says a ton when the one, fuckin solitary time when anything musically relevant occurred in 'Puto Rico' was in 1972 with the Mar-y-Sol Festival:

Ive always been a touch bemused by The Who. Concept albums about boys playing pinball, the intense earnestness. Just dont quite get it.

I just straight ahead actively dislike led zepplin, think theyre queer as fuck

The only people who could fight out of that group were Daltrey and Bonham

The rest would get battered by my wife

What is your problem, Maricon? The thread specifically asks which iconic/revered bands/artists you just don't get and I made my contribution, the same way that you made your pathetic one.

His problem is he was talking to people who have aimed a little higher in life than albums by Cher and movies starring immune-compromised Chinamen

No, the problem is that you don't 'get' any band or type of modern rock/pop music except obscuro didnt-make-the-top-10 Disco, circa 1977-79

I do like other bands/artists that are somehow revered. The problem with both of you assholes is that you are intolerant to diversity in OPINIONS!

I like only two songs from Cher. She is not even among my top 20 artists. I did liked her as a WOMAN even though she wasn't a 10 either.
