...does it spell the end of boxing as a PPV sport?

If this fight does record numbers, as many people suggest, and you have millions of people, many who haven't bought a boxing PPV in years, if ever, spending $100 a pop for this fight, and it ends up being an unwatchable snooze fest, will it kill boxing on PPV? That would be a whole lot of people left disappointed and upset, and with Floyd and Pac's careers both winding down, boxing would be hard pressed to find an audience willing to shell out big bucks for a fight on PPV.

Not at all. There have been plenty of boring PPV's before, it would be nothing new. A lot of mega fights are boring these days tbh, as fighters tend to fight "not to lose" rather than go all out.

No but it might temporarily have an impact

PPV already decimated the sport as a mainstream concern in America decades ago

The last record breaker, DLH/Mayweather, was a dud and it made Mayweather a superstar anyway.

Honestly, I expect more from you TFK. Bad thread.

Terrible thread. Oscar Vs Tito was utter shit too, and neither fight had a negative impact on boxing.

Like I said, it's nothing new, and will have no impact.

It would be pretty cool for PPV model to die in boxing though.

Yep. The only thing that will happen is some groaning and moaning in the immediate aftermath but once the next big fight is on people will buy into the hype all over again like they always do.

As far as the sport is concerned i think a great fight that ends in a robbery would be worse than a dud.

Yeah, it would suck if all we ended up with was "boxing is fixed!!!" conversations. People would still buy the next big fight, but it would suck.

Do you guys see any potential superstars that can have huge PPV appeal? When Tito/DLH fought there were some prospects. I dont see any right now.

Men on this board think boxing is fixed regularly and that bayless is in May's pocket.

Athletes are going to the NFL, NBA, Baseball, etc.
The ones who can't make it there will try boxing, mma, or pro wrestling. Even Jon Jones tried to be an NFL player but was a sh*t athlete overall compared to his brothers.

But, if speculation is correct, Saturday's fight will be seen by a lot more people, and they'll be paying $100 for the PPV.

$100 is nothing to sneeze at for most people, and if you disappoint a couple million of them, it's gonna be tough to come back from.

Yeah but there's no PPVs on the horizon anyway after this fight. Boxing will be around forever.

Of course Boxing will be around forever. The question is, will it be a PPV entity?

Unfortunately, they don't have the same outlet as the WWE and the UFC, who are laying the foundation for leaving the PPV model, instead airing their events on their own 'networks'. If the WWE network succeeds, you can bet the UFC will begin offering their PPV's on Fight Pass, eliminating the need for PPV providers and the cut they take out of each PPV buy.

    Seriously:lol:...

The Resident "MMA Guy" of the Forum, who Almost NEVER Posts in the General Boxing Forum & Has NEVER Started a Thread in this Forum (To REED's Recollection), Comes w/Some Agenda Based BULLSHIT???...Definitely NOT Surprising, Considering the Source...

Anyways, NO, it Wouldn't Spell the End of Boxing as a PPV Sport...

Many People SWORE Off Boxing After the Patently ABSURD Verdict of the 1st Lewis-Holyfield Fight...Floyd-DeLa was a DUD...Floyd-Canelo WASN'T Terribly Exciting or Competitive...DeLa was the Undisputed PPV KING of his Era, yet he Mixed In Some DUDS Too...If None of Those Fights Affected the Boxing PPV Industry, Floyd-Pac WON'T...

Fans Feel Soooooooo STRONGLY About 1 or the Other, that Even in the Fight IS a Dud, the Fact THEIR Guy Won will Make it WORTH It...

The ONLY Thing that Potentially COULD Damage the Boxing PPV Industry is Al Haymon's "Premiere Boxing Champions" Series on NBC, if he Eschewed PPV Altogether, Which he WON'T...Haymon Will BUILD UP his Guys on NBC & Other Networks, BUILD a Fan Following for them, THEN Put them on PPV...

So While You Doom & Gloomers Hope & PRAY This is It for Boxing, Rest Assured, ANOTHER Crop of PPV Worthy Stars WILL Emerge...As REED has Been Telling ya'll for YEARS, Boxing Replenishes Itself...

    Always HAS, Always WILL...

    True but...

With the PPV that high coupled with the money these guys are getting, could leave a huge stench in the air.

Plus, if Floyd wins what's the point in a rematch? Especially if it's a dominating performance. How do you sell the September fight?

Exactly. This fight will be unlike any other before in terms of PPV buys and cost per buy.

No but I will be happy when both are retire.....pay-rate will go down..the fighters active today won't feel as they deserve to make the same millions as Pacquiao or Mayweather....Bradley making 3-4 million for a fight is INSANE!!!...the guy has 2 fans. I don't see anyone coming up who will generate enough interest to make over 8 million a fight....so that good for the fans...these mofos will start fighting each other instead of protecting fictional future money making opportunities.

I highly doubt that. There's probably a few hundred fighters right now who believe they deserve the same.

People were saying the same shit YEARS ago!

They'll ALWAYS be another mega fight!

Boxing isn't going anywhere. I wish ppl would STFU with that stupid ass theory.

Even WITHOUT this fight, boxing right now is still killing UFC, which tbh seems to be losing popularity.

At the end of the day, there will ALWAYS be more appeal in a boxing match than in some gay ass grappling.

I shoulda known TFK was a proponent for faggot ass MMA.

Boxing will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be a more popular sport than MMA.

I assure you, in our life times they'll NEVER be a mixed martial artist as popular as Floyd. LET ALONE Tyson and Ali, guys who's global and historic appeal shits on Floyd's.

You're never gonna see fuckin Jack Nicholson, Magic Johnson, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, and 85% of the rest of Hollywood at an MMA/UFC fight.

MMA will always have its niche, but boxing is simply an EASIER sport for the masses to appeal to. Simply because it has a HISTORY of some of the biggest names in sport's history that will always keep it alive.

Ali, Tyson, Marciano, Leonard, Louis. These aren't just some of the biggest names in boxing history. They're amongst the biggest names in SPORT'S history.

Who's the most famous grappling faggot of all time?

To put into perspective - Lummox Lewis is a bigger star than any MMA fighter in history, and Lummox isn't even a top 10 star in boxing history.

That's a problem in MMA...every 2-3 years they keep changing who "The GREAT mixed martial artist of all time"....just a few years ago it was Anderson Silva...n before that it was Fedor(the one), now today it's Jon Jones running over pregnant women and all....
