My question is "if there was no more boxing starting right now anywhere in the world ever again... out of all of today's active fighters who would make the hall of fame? Lets say only 10 active fighters make the cut. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 8. 9. 10. ???????
If Pac is considered active, that's a given along with Clenelo. After, theres no one that jumps out as a sure shot but I think these ones would/could get in Loma Fury Donaire Golovkin Maybe Spencer or Crawford (would be underserved though) Maybe Inoue Maybe Rigondeaux Maybe Kovalev
Rigondeaux is a lock. One of the greatest amateurs of all time. 2 time gold medalist Roman gonzalez is also a lock, surefire slam dunk first ballot hofer
If we're reserving it for what it should be, the greatest active fighters, then mine'd look like this: #10. Guillermo Rigondeaux #09. Terence Crawford #08. Vasyl Lomachenko #07. Oleksandr Usyk #06. Gennady Golovkin #05. Juan Francisco Estrada #04. Canelo Alvarez #03. Nonito Donaire #02. Roman Gonzalez #01. Manny Pacquiao You can have it in any order really, it doesn't matter too much. These are the guys I'd say have to get in first though, unless I'm forgetting somebody. Kovalev at one point was one of the best in the world, but his resume is embarrassingly thin. The guys best wins are Pascal, Yarde and Storm Alverez. Hardly a Murderer's Row. He'd make the list of he got the decision vs Ward, but he didn't, so too bad. Spence go above Rigondeaux, but I don't think it's a hard sell to have Guillermo higher. Top amateur, one of the best SBWs ever, schooled a guy who's right up the top of the list so bad he almost retired, and just watching the pair of them fight, it's clear who was the better fighter.
Choco is a first ballot guy. I would expect Rigo to get in one day, but whether he's a first ballot guy or not depends on who he's up against in voting.
All these guys are locks: Inoue, Crawford, Loma, Canelo, Spence, Golovkin, Rigo. Then of course, you have the following three who are true greats, and will obviously get in: Pac, Choco, Donaire. Two guys I'm not sure about making it: Kov and Mikey Garcia. Kov, despite his downfall, I think deserves in. Mikey Garcia, no, I don't think he did enough to deserve it.
I didn't say anything about deserving. I'm talking the reality of the HOF, it's a popularity contest. Spence will make it.
I mean, Mikey Garcia has never been a star, so he's no shoo-in. On top of the fact that his resume is shit, and he's not deserving. Kov ruled over the light heavyweight division for several years, that scores him a lot of points given how prestigious 175 is in boxing history. Mikey Garcia never really ruled any division, on top of his thin resume. Of course, Mikey's career isn't over, but.... I think everyone knows he's just in it for one more cash out fight.
AJ will get in, and so will Fury. Shit, Wilder probably will as well. Broner, fuck no! He won't make it. He's too hated, and considered too much of a joke.
Rigo's place can be justified given the Donaire win, and given his dominance at 122. I don't think Mikey has anything to sell to the HOF. He was never popular, and has zero notable wins.
Garcia and broner are both 4 division champs. Not many of those guys who aint in As fraudulent as broners vacant titles were he clearly doesn't deserve to be in but it wouldn't shock me if some of these dullards voted him
I'd be surprised. He's just too much of a laughing stock. Lost to every good fighter he ever faced. It's hard to justify him making it, even with the Hall's joke standards.
No. They won't get in. If guys like Eubank, Collins, and Benn still aren't in, I dont see how Pascal/Stevenson level guys are gonna make it.
I agree I've never been impressed with Garcia. For someone who came from a boxing family (his dad Big G was Varga's trainer, brother Robert was a world champion and great trainer) he sure doesnt seem to have his heart in boxing anymore. His long lay offs. One due to promotional issues with Top Rank, to become a cop, and most recently more inactivity after the Spence loss. Just doesnt scream HOF material.
How about active guys between 154 to 168 other than Canelo and GGG ofcourse. Charlo brothers Dimitri Andrade Caleb Plant Callum Smith Billy Joe Sanders Daniel Jacobs Iraslandy Lara Austin Trout Any of these guys get in?
Lara might be borderline, but I'd be shocked if ever makes it. Casamayor still hasn't made it, and he's more deserving. Jermall has a chance of getting in one day depending on what he does. Plant would have to beat Benavidez and dominate the division for awhile. Its doubtful. Andrade is a giant disappointment. Hell no he's not making the Hall. Lol @ the rest. The fuck is Callum Stiff gonna do at the HOF? Sweep the floors?
Pascal resurgence is intriguing, but i don't think the two of them should get in. Kovy should imo. Everyone knows he won the first ward fight
The funny thing about Smith is before the Canelo fight he was considered the toughest 168 champion and most accomplished by some experts. Having said that... I felt Benevides was the best guy at 168. When hes disciplined, sober and training he could beat anyone at 168 including Canelo.
Most people I've spoken to here in the UK think that Smith was overhyped, but still decent. Beating a one-armed groves, destroying fielding and losing to Ryder, as well as looking incredibly poor in the WBSS, left people with a bad taste in their mouths. Most people who actually watched all these fights, rather than hearing them before he was touted as a possible Canelo opponent rated him quite low, myself included. The general view point here was that Saunders was better, but Smith could win due to his size. That said, I still rate him above Plant.
